"big Lunch" Street Parties In Leeds And Toxteth

Recommended Posts

... or just the "socio" part of a socioeconomic stimulus package?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/leeds/content/article...h_feature.shtml

The above link is a few days old and only documents the parties being held in Leeds.

But it was all over BBC Breakfast - and there was an on-location report from Toxteth where they've erected a marquee in the streets and have invited people to come along for some food and a bit of socialising.

The BBC reporter mentioned it was designed to capture the spirit of the 1977 Silver Jubilee street parties.

Populous-calming measures or are we looking at King Charles in 2010?

Go to the Leeds site:

http://www.leedsinitiative.org/harmonious/page.aspx?id=12252

The title reads "Harmonious Leeds" !!

It was never that. There's a thin veneer of tolerance. I know that because whenever I'm up there, the taxi drivers all talk about "losing their jobs to blacks." (THEIR racist language and opinion, NOT mine).

Toxteth was far worse, don't know if it has changed any but doubt it. Toxteth used to have parts that were 'no go' areas for the police.

I wish I flaming was! Don't think I'd have too much worry about affording a decent house to raise my kids in then!

These are the parties promoted by EDF (where Gordon's brother works) who have become very green although according to Private Eye they are far from green in France where they're based. Sanctimonious twaddle and I've only seen the TV ads - heard nothing else until Breakfast this morning. I hope the parties are a bust.

Quite right too. Think of all the CO2 BBQ's release.

Not to mention all the hideous smoke permeating your house and your nice clean washing (and your children's lungs who are prevented from enjoying the few sunny days we seem to get). And the loud talking and token giggling pissed woman until half two in the morning.

Barbeques are for savages who have no concept of taste or culture.

I blame the Australians.

News to me - the bizzies are never out of the place.
