'i Felt Like A Prostitute': Romanian Accountant Sues Top City Firm For £40m In Race Claim

An accountant who claims she was made to feel 'like a prostitute' by her bosses is suing a top City firm for £40million in a record race discrimination claim.

Romanian Mihaela Popa says she suffered a string of racist and sexual jibes while working at accountancy giant PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Miss Popa, 31, claims that a colleague told her 'Eastern Europeans are whores' and use to refer to her as 'Mihaela and porn'.

She says she was accused of only being in London to 'live it up' and was quizzed about returning to Romania, given menial tasks to perform and ignored for promotion.

When she asked one manager why she was given mundane work, he allegedly said that 'someone was needed to mop up the s***'.

She alleges that some of her colleagues even believed she was a Communist spy working undercover for the Securitate, the Romanian secret police.

Miss Popa, of Hampstead, north west London, earned £41,000-a-year as a forensic accountant.

She claims that the discrimination prevented her from becoming a partner with the firm, earning as least £500,000-a-year plus bonuses.

She is demanding £40million in compensation for loss of earnings and hurt feelings - believed to be the highest amount ever claimed in a race discrimination case.

PricewaterHouse Coopers denies her allegations of race discrimination and victimisation.

Miss Popa studied for an MBA in the U.S. and started her career at the company's office in Bucharest in 2000.

She says she suffered sexual harassment and race discrimination within months of moving to the firm's Chicago branch, before transferring to London in September 2004.

£40m is she hedging against inflation with this claim?

What's the record pay out so far for this sort of thing?

They should be ashamed.
read the subtext - she did this claim once already to get out of the US and into London. She's not a bad looker for an accountant - which is a start. But is this claim with any merit - doubt it. It's the usual, I am a bird, I have hit 30 and realised I am not going to make it, I've wasted a decade, I have two cards to play here - let's go for it big....

Totally cynical about it, yes, do I believe the people at work did say that to her, absolutely, do I think she gave back at least as bad as she got, completely.

Grow up love.

She believes she should have been a partner aged in her 20's? She needs to get real. The youngsters get the shit jobs, that's what making your way up in the company is, that's why they are employed, nobody starts out as a partner. Even if someone did make a nasty comment to her, that is their right, it doesn't reflect the companies attitude.

Its just someone with an overdeveloped sense of entitlement having had their bubble burst. Few people have earned £40m by her age, few ever do. She wants it to satisfy that sense of entitlement "Hey I got an MBA, that means being rich is my right".

How would she know what a prostitute feels like? Unless...

I feel like a prostitute most days -

But I'm too mean to pay for it.

I thank you.

PS she is being GREEDY - £10M will easily provide a £500K lifestyle for 40 years if she invests wisely and gradually draws down on the capital. I doubt many of the partners get to draw £500K+ for much more than 10-15 years.

Apparently in another story:

I WAS MADE TO FEEL LIKE A FORENSIC ACCOUNTANT

Prostitute Rachel Harvey of London recently was made to feel like a forensic accountant for a group of investment analysts from an un-named city banking firm. "It was degrading" sobbed the 26 year old former economics graduate; "They wanted me to write a report on the risk profile of their off the book CDO's, I have never felt so used".

Rachel got tangled up in the degradation when she first saw Bloomberg on a widescreen Sony Bravia in the window of Currys, she was *****ing off a lorry driver at the time.

She could buy half of Ronaldo for that.

£40 million for hurt feelings. Poor lass.

It's much worse than being part of the holocaust, or genocide in Rwanda, having your country bombed and your kids having limbs chopped or blown off.

Not that I believe she would win anything near that amount.

The sad thing is that she'll probably get a big payout. Just another example of the compensation culture gone mad. With all the diversity training and equal opportunities legislation, human rights act etc the only people to truely benefit have been those who have abused the system. Ideologically these things are not the problem its the capacity of the individual to abuse them, and the establishment who do not use ANY common sense when dealing with these kind of issues.
