Friend of mine works for them - not a flipper; an accountant.

He's been told the same, and looking for a new job.

He reckons 2 years until they re-locate, but is getting out now.

Right so they want to make a profit in the UK, but would rather not pay tax. I mean I can undertand them doing this what with them struggling to make a profit and all!

i think the point is, if we keep continuing to bleed AAA listed companies to europe and Switzerland, the finance sector here will become a worse joke than it is.

We should be begging these companies to stay not let them piss off to fill the coffers of other places.

Yes -let`s blame the poor - this forum usually does ...

Good point!!!

Let's rephrase for your benefit:

"Yes - let's blame the lazy benefit scrounging scum who can't be bothered to get off their collective arses and find some gainful employment, and who depend on weak socialist government to provide their fags and sky TV at the expense of hard working people"

But why are they moving? They are making record profits, so whatever their feelings about the tax they pay in the UK, they are doing very nicely here.

Yeah how they gonna pay all those benefit seekers soon.

Yep i whole heartedly agree with you. They are a complete waste of space and a drain on our society. If only Australia was still a penal colony we could send them there. They have gouged us all for so much....

But since we can't what should we do with the bankers instead?

Perhaps we should stop importing cheap immigrant labour to undercut uk workers, and allow wages at the low end to rise to where it becomes attractive to work?

I keep hearing right wing propaganda about this. Yet labour functions by the same supply and demand constraints as everything else. You artificially increase supply (immigrant workers) which are not responsive to long term uk costs, which drives down wages. So what the hell do you think uk labour would end up doing? Do you really really think that uk policy makers and corporates did not know and understand all these things? And why the hell are you complaining when the end result is such a forgone conclusion? oh right you and they were hoping uk labour would be dumb enough to try and compete with the imported labour..........

actually they are suppoted by the tax payer. A large proportion of their workforce, if not the majority will be on benefits. They also primarily employ part time workers to reduce holiday, pension, etc costs. I would not be at all surprised if the amounts payed out in benefits to McDonald's workers is greater than the total tax take from them.

interesting point .. wonder if you could find some figures on that. I suspect though that a large majority will not qualify for benefits directly seeing as they are kids still living at home .. not to say their parents aren't in receipt of benefits or a council flat.....

I can't believe any multi national would move their head quarters out of the UK.

Once the budget receives Royal Ascent the UK will be the best country in the world to have headquarters / holding company.

All foreign profits will be exempt from tax but most interest payments will still be tax deductible. This will result in big multi nationals with a large presence in the UK being able to fund all of their foreign operations from the UK and claim a tax deduction in the UK even though the repatriation of profits will not be taxed.!!

bit of an idiot comment there.

They have a duty to their shareholders to maximize profits. One part of this is minimizing tax. If they can pay less tax elsewhere, they should.

Tell us how you never shop in the big supermarkets, because you prefer to pay the higher prices in your local butcher's.
