Who built it, the Aliens from Roswell?

He "Talks" well of the product...............looking for Goverment grants/loans?

Mike

The Tesla motor company already has some government funding I believe. They are a real car company though, not snake oil salesmen.

 $57,000.00

it would be more practical and reasonably priced to just buy a second hand petrol car - even if the electricity was free!

Given the quality of the fit and finish it's fairly priced. You need to compare it to a high spec BMW or Merc, not some dreary ford.

Electric cars need to be the same price as petrol cars, not a penny more expensive for them to succeed.

agreed

It is about the same price as comparable petrol cars. Tesla are not trying to build a competitor to the mondeo, they are going after high spec BMW's.

Base price is only 50k USD for those in USA after government credit, and looks like you get a lot for your money. I'm definitely getting one.

Remember in the US those stupid ass pickups from Ford and GM are mostly <$20k, and $30k buys you a lot of gasoline.

They should look into making an enormous electric 4x4 to see off all those blinking RangeRover/RangeRover -alikes.

You mean a beast powerful enough to haul a trailer full of batteries? ;)

300 miles on a single charge, 45mins for full charge. A practical electric car at a reasonable price.

yes, but we're still burning gas and coal to generate the power to charge it ! We should be investing in nuclear power stations which will give our country some energy autonomy in the future.

and there's nothing green about the current labour party - UK Coal proposed surface mines

Even coal & gas power stations are a hell of a lot more environmentally friendly and efficient than a mini oil-burning power station in each car.

Tesla are working their way down the market, which seems sensible. Their first car was a $100k 'boys toy', this is a $50k up-market saloon, so next will probably cost in the region of $20k to $30k and appeal to a larger market. They'll learn more about building better cars with each model. It would be very difficult to just jump in and produce a cheap, mass produced car based on new(ish) technology.

I just hope it is the cost of electric cars that comes down and not other cars/fuel that goes up for these prices to meet.

"300 miles on a single charge"

Allegedly

hmm.. doesn't mention at what mph 300 miles could be achieved though. Nor does it mention how many times a full charge will remain just that rather than a battery memory developing and the maximum range reducing with succesive charges.

Tesla - 45 minutes to fully charge it to achieve a 300 range

Focus - 2 minutes to fill up to achieve a 500 mile range

We're still not quite there yet are we?

It will depend on price, not time to charge

With a bit of planning, we could all plan our trips a bit better for the sake of saving fortunes in propellant

That Canyonero song is quality, I remember the episode well, especially the extended mix at the end credits. "unexplained fires are a matter for the courts" <disclaimer: courts have ruled the Canyonero unsafe for city or highway driving>

Oh Simpsons, why did you become so rubbish
