Land Value Taxation Campaign

Recommended Posts

I just stumbled upon this website. If you ever felt the burden of taxation was unfairly shouldered by the productive sector (ie people who actually get up and go to work) then this may be your thing.

Land Value Tax Campaign.

If this campaign group could clearly demonstrate some practical examples of how it would benefit the ordinary working person in particular as well as the country as a whole they'd be on a winner.

Given there is supposed to be housing shortage yet nearly a million empty homes in the UK one suspects the introduction of this tax might solve those two problems simultaneously.

Well worth reading but it seems to have passed by virtually unnoticed on this site, such a shame.

ALTER

Link for the Lib Dem group Action for Land Taxation and Economic Reform.

Plenty of interest and knowledge about LVT on HPC, check out all the threads on Fred Harrison for a start.

Land tax has been discussed repeatedly here; the idea has hardly been ignored even if this particular web site has been (so far).

TBH I think the give-and-take debate on HPC (with pros and cons discussed in depth) is likely to be more interesting than the presentation of a self-confessedly single-issue organisation.

It should be illegal for a person to purchase more land than it is reasonable for a person to own, since the ownership of resources is partly an arrangement between more than simply the seller of the land: We all consent to observe legal property rights, not only the seller.

Since many people now own more property than is reasonable how best to return to equilibrium? A Land Value Tax might not be a bad idea, but ultimately all taxes are bad.
