Advise On Notice, Weekend Check Outs And Leaving Dates

Recommended Posts

OK so I am moving in to new house on Sat 1st Aug and they are checking me in on Friday 31st Aug.

I want to pack my house up on that Friday too and move in to new place on Saturday.

Therefore I want to check out on Sat 1st.

I am in a 1 month notice. I want to pay min of 1 days overlap (£50 day rent!).

My Q's;

Can I check out on a Saturday afternoon? Do they have to check you out on the last day of rental, if I have paid for that full day then I think I should be able to move out when I want on that day and they can check me out the next day.

Is 1 month notice = 4 weeks or by date i.e. do I need to give notice on the 1st July?

Thanks!

Technically it's one months notice on the rent due date. I'm sure your LL won't mind if it's longer and falls on a date more convenient for you.

Not your problem if this falls at the weekend.

gutted. I didn't realise that. It's the 7th of the month so will have 1 week overlap.

Only if they know it's the case.

Just give notice tomorrow and see what they say.

I thought LA's knew what they were doing but since I've been on here and read some of the tales I'm not so sure...... :)

+1. The courts are very strict about this date thing with LLs; it's less well known with tenants.

You might find they bite your hand off - may be easier for them to let from the 1st than the 7th as so many people move at the end of the month.

Bit of wriggle room here - if it avoids having to pay another week's rent, it may be worth being willing to be out by noon, say? ( Check your agreement - many specify noon, anyway.)
