Sign O The Times - Campo Lane, Sheffield

Recommended Posts

For those not from Sheffield, Campo Lane is the quintessential estate agents and conveyancers road in the city centre. The Property Shop site has been to let for over a year now.

Such images don't fill me with joy though. I was hoping that we'd get sensible house prices (3 x ave income) - not Armageddon.

Edit: sorry, meant to say 1st 4 Mortgages empty for a year. Dunno how long Property Shop's been empty.

Haven't been down Campo Lane for years. Might take a swing that way next time I'm in town.

Has "The Chimes" been built yet?

That building looks like one on Vicar Lane - is that The Chimes?

Meanwhile; colleague who's selling a house went down Campo Lane and surrounding streets to visit the estate agents who used to be there to find that there are barely any left!

Some have shut their city centre branches (or gone bust) and the ones left are essentially letting agents for landlords of various ilks.

In the case of the parasitical profession that is "Estate Agency", schadenfreude is joyous indeed ;)

Second image; the display poster ought to read "Property Shop To Let...once in a lifetime opportunity...get in at the bottom of the market while you can!" :P

Just thought I'd add an update. The 1st4Mortgages place has had an happy ending....It's now a hairdressers!

The Property Shop is now a shoe shop. And I also noticed that the big Winkworth's branch has closed.

Although a big lettings agency has also opened on the lane. I guess it's the market responding to conditions; 3 EAs (primarily) close, 1 lettings agy opens.
