Empty Homes - A Whole Village

Recommended Posts

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/glasgo...est/8113213.stm

A village built in Argyll to meet the demands of the UK oil boom of the 1970s but abandoned without ever being occupied is set for a new role.

Pollphail at Portavadie was to house workers needed to construct concrete oil rigs, but the plan was abandoned.

The site's owner Alan Bradley said changes would start to be seen within a year as demolition clears the area for the first of 270 new properties.

Previous owners of the site on the Cowal Peninsula have included the failed bank, BCCI.

Hang on, build houses that nobody lives in, 30 years later demolish those houses and build even more nobody will live in...I dont get it.

Exactly. It's a funny old world.

The site's owner Alan Bradley said changes would start to be seen within a year as demolition clears the area for the first of 270 new luxury flat properties.

ok ok, I edited the quote so it made more sense

The only new developments around here are £250k "luxury flats" with "easy access to Heathrow".

Rents are no better, £67.50 a week for a room I can barely stand up in and excluding utilities\CT...

This place reminds me of those unwanted halls of residence that some property scammer sold to unsuspecting investors for £250k each, it was on Inside Out a few months back.

270 luxury flats?

In Portavadie?

Hasn't the guy looked at a map?

Or was it a good old case of "There aren't already any luxury flats in Portavadie, so if I build lots I will be able to tap an unrealised market and make a fortune" style warped logic?
