British Expats Still Suffering From Housing Downturn

Recommended Posts

Yes our old friends the Karma comedians are still whinging about the housing market:

Been on the market for 12 months already, knocked £40k off the original asking price.....and still no joy.

We too have dropped the price significantly

Seems this housing crash is affecting quite a few of our plans to emigrate

We've dropped to the lowest price we can go to.......so it is a bloody bargain for someone at £159,995!!!!!! Was £200k.

We paid £150k for it 2 years ago.......so not making any money by selling anyway

etc etc

Karma comedians!

I think it's sad how many people have literally no understanding of what a market is and that something is only worth what someone else is prepared to pay for it. Simple ideas, utterly alien to most people. Sad.

the thread is still ongoing

BethAndAndrew are letting theirs out now.

What amazes me is that they bought at the peak for £150k, wanted to sell at £200k, then tried £160k and didn't get a buyer in 22 months and called someone who pointed out that perhaps their house was overpriced a troll...clueless, and unfortunately they now live within 10 miles of where Miss D'oh and I are going to be living in a couple of months, undoubtedly driving up property prices there too.

Lost a lot of sympathy for my LL. They are trying to sell, and received a fair offer in the current market, imho...but they declined it out of hand as they "don't want to give the house away do they." They seemed to be insulted by the offer which would mean they had only made 170% over 9 years, rather than the 200% they were expecting.

What scares me is how these sorts of people will react/behave if the sh!t every really hits the fan.

I have a degree of sympathy for these people, but the dancing shat all over each post and the wacky avatars makes me less sympathetic every time I look there.

EDITED TO ADD: bloody hell, these people are desperate to leave. 8k to validate a visa in flights alone... dragging the kids along too.

...it gets worse:

We have looked into most options........our mortgage is over £1000pm but we have a loan secured on the house also....which is our downfall at the moment, as we can't afford to pay this off without selling the house

So we would have to get at least £270 a week in rent just to cover the mortgage payments (and most houses around here are 3 bed terraced renting out for about £80 pw)......then we would still have to pay the loan on top......which we can't afford to do if we're in Oz.

We have a 5-6 bed semi new build by the way.

Thanks for the advice though,

Beth x x

Not sure you would add much. They've had fliers from HPC to contend with for a long time now.

just read the last few replies. They appear to now think they have sold their house. It's not sold until the money is in the soon to be bankrupt bank. ;)

If they manage to get the sale through, they are then waiting for the exchange rate to improve. Can't see that happening against any currency unless they are relocating to zimbabwea.

They will also get gazundered just before the sale......it happened to us the first time we sold our house when going to France. They do it because being honest sellers (us that is), we told them our plan to leave the country.....big mistake being honest.

British expats forum is one of the most useful forums on the web if you are emigrating. I'm finalising my documents for Canada and that forum has been an amazing resource. If you want educated opinion on property prices, stay here, or if you want a laugh at people who claim they are experts but are stupid go to singing pig or MSE...people on British expats have been caught out by a cycle that they have no knowledge of because they are lied to by our leaders and MEJA.

...it gets worse:

You can rent them for £80 pw, but they are mortgaged for £270 pw?! ...yes...well...they thought through buying then didn't they.

Not so long ago, natural selection took care of this sort of idiocy.
