House Price Crash Forum

Busy Barratt

Recommended Posts

I was talking to a tradesman who was doing some work for us over the weekend; his day job is working on a large Barratt new build development which has been very quiet until recently. The last month or two it has mental with all the work he can do - after Barratt took about a hundred grand off the average asking price.

Conversely, another tradesman was telling us a couple of weeks ago that he's scrabbling for work due to all of the tradesmen being laid off from big mothballed sites; massive competition for jobs from plumbers, sparkies, painters, anything you care to name.

I know that they were having trouble in the Swansea development and had to change their build order to get the houses up before the flats rather than vice versa. Not sure what they're going for there now. Might have to have a peek.

Just had a peek and saw this. I'm sure that I saw them advertised at 250k when the development first started. IPads don't seem to have dropped much though.

They must be in trouble.

£175,000 to live in a poky on a rat infested river right in the centre of Swansea, built on old heavy metal industrial soil.

They really were having trouble at Swansea. I was in the meeting. The original plan was to build the Ipads, then the houses, but things had to change when the flats stopped selling, so they had to do the houses first. I'm not even sure whether or not they decided to go ahead with all of the development. I know that a big chunk was put on hold.
