Car Production Down 43%

Recommended Posts

I've spent an hour looking up some older data from last year to compare the 43% figure to. The graph of UK car production is up and down like a popular hookers underwear. To smooth this out maybe the quarter figures are more reliable. I mean this months figures which are down only 43% are a result of 67,754 cars as opposed Aprills fall of 55% based on 68,258 cars produced.

But looking at the graph we'd just seen the falls kicking in in May last year. So we are starting seeing falls on the original falls, so these monthly falls must tail off.

2007 Q4 = 401,080 cars produced

2008 Q4 = 265,485

2009 Q1 = 183,010

If i take the last 3 months (March, April, May) we are looking at 197,841

Looking back over the last few years peak monthly production was around 150,000 a month, so this should give us an indication of capacity. So the car industry is producing well under 50% capacity by my reasoning.

So all is ok in the car industry then.

Go those green shoot!

Monthly numbers taken from BBC news. graph of production here graph on this page upto feb
