Porsche Sales Down 15%--a Barometer Par Excellence

Recommended Posts

You bought a mondeo?

No, its built in Japan! Has the steering rack from the MX-5

Before the car launched, there were talks about sharing platform with Ford Mondeo. That did not come true - at least for the current generation Mondeo - because both platforms are entirely different. In fact, the only major common part is engine. If you remember, I already pointed out in my Mondeo report that the four-cylinder engine family was primarily designed by Mazda and then adapted to Ford. Take the largest-selling 2.0-litre 16V engine as an example. No matter in the Mazda or the Mondeo they displace 1999c.c., having the same all-alloy construction, the same compression ratio, the same bore and stroke dimensions... the only difference is that the Mazda lacks variable intake manifolds thus produces only 142hp and 134lbft, down 3hp and 6lbft from the Mondeo. The Mazda engine with fixed intake manifold also suffers from excessive noise at high-speed cruising. Seems that Mazda sometimes emphasis driver appeal in the wrong places.

Mate of mine recently bought a Porsche he told his wife it was an investment. Didn't know wether to laugh or cry, his previous investment was a house which isn't doing too well at the mo!!

Was his name Gordon by chance?

 Well he is a bit of a moron but he isn't called Gordon. He is a nice chap my mate, but he is so obsessed by image and status it'll be the ruin of him.

Me, I continue to drive around in my old Ford Escort. Perfect for duelling with Porsches (they always give way, they seem to be worried about their bodywork and paint finish - cowards to the lot of them I say).

Don't know about that, but relatively speaking, they are great value for money right now. I bought mine a couple of years ago - I thought they wouldn't drop much more  but am currently about £20k down I reckon  Fantastic car though which helps me justify the extravagance. You're friend would be getting hardly any interest on the money in the bank, so he might as well enjoy it eh?

UK car production down 43% in May

No green shoots there then.

I have recently bought a 05 plate Mazda 6 and love it!

.....and unemployment rises but don't forget House prices are still going up.

Soon the HPC denialists will soon be denying they have lost their jobs, drive to work every morning sit in the car for 8.5 hours outside the office and then drive home at 5 : 30 .

Reminds me of that Michael "Mike" Douglas film of a few years ago: "Falling Down" cult classic now. He lost his job and drove to work every day to cover the grim fact up. He loses it one day in a traffic jam and goes on a hilarious shooting spree.

If he's obsessed with his image, I wouldn't want to be driving around in one right now, somebody might confuse you for a banker!

Yep, a classic movie. I remember seeing it at a Paris cinema when it was first released. The scenes in the burger joint and the army surplus store are some of the best Douglas and Hollywood have ever produced B)

One thing these might show is continuing salary divergence, Porsche figures are really not that bad.

This is however, very bad for a mass market mass consumption economy and one in that millions like to borrow excess money to bid up housing.
