Gordon Brown in Blackpool today

THE Prime Minister is expected to launch a fresh attack against the Conservatives today over cuts to public sector spending.

Gordon Brown will address the annual conference in Blackpool of the GMB Union which represents thousands of public sector workers, as a debate is raging on future spending on areas such as the NHS, education and the police...

Public sector workers desert Labour

Public sector workers were always regarded as the heartlands of Labour, but that vote has collapsed. I know why they have turned away – they feel that Labour has deserted them. Now Labour is paying the price. The recent elections were not an isolated blip or a protest vote, but a glimpse into the futureâ€."

"In these difficult times we need stong leadership to provide continued investment to get the country back on its feet to return to strong growth and prosperity. What we don't need is a Conservative Government who would cut services, raise taxes and whip the last plate of gruel from under your kiddies face in order to line the pockets of the top-hatted capitalists."

I hope that helps.

The harsh fact is that no Government will be able to afford to pay the currently bloated

public sector's wages.

Public spending will be forced to concentrate on interest payments on the astronomical public debt.
