How Much Rent Should I Charge?

Recommended Posts

I have a good friend who has lost his job and who also needs somewhere to stay. I have a spare bedroom and am thinking of renting it to him. He will be on Unemployment Benefit, and will be around for about 3-4 months.

Will I need my landlord's permission to rent a room to him, and how much rent would the Benefits Agency be prepared to pay?

If he is your good friend and you don't need the room, why don't you offer it to him for free? Do you really need the money? I am sure whatever you do will need the LL's permission

I wouldn't take his money, but I would take the Gubmints.

And I do need the money, all overtime been scrapped at work for the mo.

It's nearly 20 years since I last claimed housing benefit. So my question is:

what would your prospective tenant have to provide to the 'Gubmint' in order to claim a housing allowance?

would it need the landlord's name on it? or would your's do?
