Robert Peston On Bbc1 - I Can't Listen To Him Anymore

Recommended Posts

He may talk great sense - and has a family pedigree that is so suitable to this age - but I cannot listen to him anymore his voice just drives me so nuts that I have turn channels whether it's TV or Radio.

Is there anyone else that feels this way about this man's voice.

Why does he do it - is he just trying to encourage Rory Bremner to make him a celeb - by making his voice into almost equivalent to American drawl?

+1; just thinking exactly the same! Good brain and commentary, but a dreadful voice. Tiresome even.

He used to suffer from a bad stammer. His intonation is somewhat unusual I agree but give the guy a break. We don't criticize Frank Gardner for not standing up in the studio.

He stood up the other day holding onto a zimmer frame, good on him. Give Peston a break, if he has trained his speech to avoid a stammer that is excellent.

Yes, that's fine.

But then becoming a TV journalist isn't - he isn't skilled for the job. I'm glad Kirk Douglas recovered the power of speech following his stroke but I wouldn't want him commentating on England games.

Its his status. I have heard lots of Country Gentry, slur their words and drawl out vowels like this. Its almost like being rich, but saying at the same time, look I'm like you.

Re-Re-Re-Cesion. Having a stammer on live TV cant be easy, equal opportunities and all that.

True, but his delivery is SO annoying it detracts from the message. He should be a backroom boy, not a presenter. That or get an actor to read his lines, preferably between sucking on helium (for a laugh), as in the Day Today sketch on Sinn Fein.

Let's leave Anne out of this! She's a very lovely lady.
