Gordon Brown Booed By Veterans At D-day Rememberance

Recommended Posts

I once knew someone who came alive from the WW2 and said - the brave ones are all dead, those that are back alive survived through their fear - in 4 years I have never been sober on the front line and so were my pals

You must be thinking of WWI and the trenches.

Everyone I've spoken to of WWII had a ball.

They loved it.

I know its a British tradition to laugh at the French, but credit where credit is due.

I agree. The French suffered terribly under Nazi rule.

Mainly because of the French top brass.

The first 100 days of the invasion cost more lives than the first 100 days of the somme - the difference - something was achieved.

As for it being a ball - I have family who lost a 23 year old at Caen.

This was a a hard battle we only just won.

War is hell.

The RAF bombed Caen on D-day and thousands of civilians died because they couldn't get out. Completely missed the German targets on the outskirts. We then had trouble getting ground forces (tanks etc) into the city because it had been reduced to rubble, which bogged us down and cost even more lives.

D-day had a whole serious of operational blunders that resulted in a terrible waste of allied soldiers and French civilians. It really was a suicide mission for many of our soldiers. :(
