John Hutton To Step Down And Resign As Defence Secretary

Recommended Posts

Reported live on SKY - Don't have a linky yet

Can't have young men being shot and blown up in Afghanistan whilst Gordon's defence secretary runs away - media will have a field day over troops having no backing in Govt.

This is the big one I feel.

It's on the ticker now

Come on, let's not get over excited. Today is reshuffle day. There will be casualties. What matters more, in political damage terms, are people leaving on other days or people getting all vengeful and doing a Geoffrey Howe afterwards.

Thing is, this is barely a reshuffle at all. Most of it is to do with filling vacated posts. So the fact that he has yet another gap to fill is quite significant imo.

Melchy is right....Probably a non story. He is tipped to be standing down at the next election anyway. There is a reshuffle on today. Would you want to stay if you were in his shoes, or watch the show from the back benches?
