Censored Dutch Mp Gets Second Place In Dutch Vote?

Recommended Posts

The end of the first full day of voting in the 2009 European Parliament elections saw jubilation among Geert Wilders’ far-right Party for Freedom as exit polls forecast it would take four of the Netherlands’ 25 seats, while the UK, which also voted on June 4, witnessed new pressure against Labour leader and prime minister Gordon Brown as another cabinet member quit.

In the Netherlands, exit polling by market research firm Synovate for Dutch television NOS and ANP news agency gave prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende’s Christian Democrats five seats – with about 20 per cent of the vote - and Wilders’ party four, one ahead of Balkende’s ruling coalition partner, Labour.

Voter turnout in the Netherlands European Parliament election was estimated at 40 per cent.

This was the guy who was banned from the UK for his film, 'Fitna'.

Holland is one of the first countries to publish exit polls.

Yes! Swiss tony!

To be fair though, he's more hard-right than far-right with no Nazi past a la Griffin or links to neo-nazis.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geert_Wilders

Wilders views British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher to be his greatest political role model.

Still looking for any word on UK exit polls. They should be available by now - usually as soon as the polls close.

It is very interesting that the incredibly tolerant Dutch feel that their very tolerant Society is so under threat that they have a need to vote for a far Right party.

You cannot tolerate the intolerant (Islam).

Yup, Sofa-Surfing-Smith really raised Geert Wilders' profile when she banned him from entered the UK, he became a big splash in the US after that.

Certainly a mistake banning him from the UK. Only served to give the publicity seeking opportunist a higher profile.

The other big winner here in NL is D66. A generally pro-Europe, center-left, social democratic party. I suppose it only goes to show that an increase in votes for ´normal´ parties doesn´t make headlines.

As a Dutch person living in England I would say the English are more tolerant than the Dutch nowadays. The Dutch have been less and less tolerant over the last decade.

As a Brit living in NL am delighted by this result. A little hypocritical you might think given that I live here. But I would gladly be "shipped back" to the UK if it meant that the Dutch society could protect themselves from this onslaught/invasion of madness.

I live by the border and we are having problems with men of "north african origin" driving people off the road (motorway) in their attempts to lure them in to town to buy drugs. To my knowledge Rotterdam is almost already pretty much lost.

There's being tolerant and then there's having your country shat on.

I can kind of understand it though, without wanting to stereotype, some of the Moroccan youth in Holland kind of go out of their way to make trouble for themselves, and are very vocal about their feelings, I don't think Dutch women appreciate being verbally abused on the streets, and it really is that bad in some places. Not that the UK will really be much different once Sharia is widespread in various areas, but I suppose we're a larger country and at the moment we just keep our collective head in the sand and hope for a quiet life.

, I don't think Dutch women appreciate being verbally abused on the streets, and it really is that bad in some places. Not

I hadn't even thought about this in ages because I don't "go out" much these days. But when I do go in to a big city I stick to the Irish bars - because although shockingly expensive, I know no matter how drunk a group of lads on their stag nights are - nothing bad is going to happen to me.

In a bar charging local prices - I have been spunked over by a "middle eastern gentleman".

It's not uncommon to walk down the streets in these changed cities and be followed quarter of a mile by some man begging me to go out with him.

The worst I've seen in Irish bars is kilt-lifting.

Then you should learn to behave yourself then ;)

Do you think the turning point was the brutal murder of Theo van Gogh? Correct me if I'm wrong but he was cycling to work and had his heart cut out.

Why do foreigners living in the Netherlands want to import foreign brides? Aren't Dutch women good enough?

I heard a snippet from Geert Wilders on early five live. He was asked if he would now try to return to England. He said now that Jackie Smith and her porn buying husband had gone he would like to come back here if the British are still interested in free speech and that you don't have to agree with what he says but at least allow him the opportunity to discuss his views.

Used to live in NL myself a few years ago, I left when it was getting too crazy (Pym Fortuyn, Van Gogh murders etc), & I totally agree with you.
