Anyone Recommend A Good Long-term Savings Account?

Recommended Posts

Please can anyone recommend a simple, no-fuss long-term savings vehicle? One that I can open with a small amount. I am going to be putting different amounts in each month. Some months it will be as much as £500, and other months it will be as little as £15.

My main problem is that whenever I save as soon as I get a few thousand saved up I end up withdrawing the lot and blowing it on a holiday, car, or whatever. I want something that I have to give a long notice if I wish to withdraw, so that I can't just make impulse purchases as soon as I've saved a few grand!

Internet banking would be great. I don't want loads of junk mail, phone calls, complicated investment schemes; just somewhere safe and secure I can put my money and forget about it for 10 years or so.
