Ldv Rescue Called Off By Weststar

Recommended Posts

They've been idiots - Malaysians are very adept at coming in, looking at it all with complete assistance from management, putting a financing package in place, pulling out, then watching like crocodiles waiting for a tired wildebeeste, then they will pay a lot less for the assets and will dump a lot of the pension liabilities, a lot of the workforce, will move the IP to a different company and will take the assets and eff off with the tooling and the IP for a lot less than buying it now.

The Chinese are good at it too - see SAIC and Rover.....

With virtually all Ford Transit production shifted to Turkey. LDV all but dead and Vauxhall's Van plant at Luton on the brink we are going to see all Commercial Van building disappear from the UK in less than 12 months.

My fellow 'Save the Transit' campaigners warned this could happen - we never wanted to believe it would - or so quickly.

Never mind, at least those threatened with unemployment can rejoice in the housing market upturn, as joyfully reported by our friends, the bulls.

So what? The UK's future is about service jobs not making stuff, where have you been the last 30 years?

The future of van maker LDV and thousands of jobs are in doubt again after a last-ditch rescue of the firm by Weststar was called off.

no surprise there tbh.

All these recent 'rescue' thingies have a habit of collapsing a month or two later. When the media have forgotten all about them obviously & the public have been conned into thinking the rescue went ahead.

Look we don't need these sort of jobs. We can just make money from selling pwoperty. If we don't have enough money just print some more. Who cares about the debt ? Economists don't.

Exactly. And with the global downturn now coming to an end and recovery in sight, we can get back to our profitable activities such as buying BMWs on credit, flipping properties, and...erm...investing in....people, and...erm...knowledge economies and stuff.

So what exactly is wrong with beemers ? They make a product that people want to buy and AFAIK are privately owned - they thrive without state subsidy and will remain strong after all this blows over. The remnants of the UK car industry (not the foreign transplants) could take a leaf out of bmw's book.

Good product that, unfortunately, attracts overleveraged spiv customers.

See also Range Rover Sport (shame also a nice car) and Mini Coopers.

Mini is a good example of quality British manufacturing... good supply chain management, desirable product etc Ok they have the "estate agent" image but that is hardly the fault of the manufacturer.

Lotus also.

There are others....

Nothing wrong with BMWs, though the fact that they are the car of choice for East-Anglia's-foremost-kitchen-salesman types puts me off them a bit. My point was that the buying and selling of 'luxury' items financed by credit/MEW has become an industry in itself in the UK.

I'm in Southampton and the Transit issue has hit three separate people I know. It has had definable knock on effects in the local economy as well.

Exactly.

British manufacturing down the pan again. The French will not allow it, nor will the Germans.

This lilly-livered bunch of theiving scumbags can see nothing in it for themselves so they are keeping their heads down in their second homes anddoing nothing to save our manufacturing base.

It makes me want to SCREAMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!
