Stamp Duty Threshold

Recommended Posts

<_<

Our property currently is on the market and we are already thinking ahead to September 2009, just 4 months away - if we don't complete in time we may have another couple of grand to budget into our fees - does anyone have any idea if the Government will extend the current 0% threshold on properties up to £175k ????????

Any thoughts welcome !!!

Thoughts:

Government well distracted for the forseeable. They will do nothing, the exemption will lapse and the civil service will resume collecting. Then there will be an outcry after 2 weeks and then the exemption will be reinstated.

I was under the impression the stamp duty "holiday" for properties up to £175K had been extended to the end of 2009. Why don't you ring a conveyancer/solicitor - they will confirm/refute this.

yes, it was announced in the budget, extented to the end of the year.

What they should do, if the predictions of house price recovery stand up to scrutiny, and for continued stimulus of the property market still a bit worse for wear, would be to set the threshold at 175k permanently. It would certainly be a boost to the low end of the market which has to drive any recovery.
