Its Time People Wised Up...

Recommended Posts

Maybe we need to be a bit more proactive about spreading the HPC message, so why dont you send this to everyone you know.

It's time the residents of the UK wised up, we have been conned.

In the UK, for 150K you can buy this 2 bed terrace:

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sa....0%26index%3D20

In france, you can buy this nice 4 bed house in the country with an acre of land:

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/overseas-proper...00%26index%3D10

In italy, how about this 3 bed villa in the hills:

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/overseas-proper...00%26index%3D20

In spain a nice 3 bed villa with a pool perhaps:

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/overseas-proper...00%26index%3D50

Or better still, florida a massive house with an indoor pool:

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/overseas-proper...00%26index%3D10

Newport Pagnell anyone ?

We really have been conned !!!

Whats the nicest house anyone has found for £150K ? You'd be hard pressed to beat florida I think. The yanks certainly dont do anything by halves, especially a HPC

Not very representative I'm afraid.

Everybody who reads this board should realise that if anything from abroad that is advertised on UK sites or through a UK agent it is at a whopping premium that no local would pay and only UK property suckers could stomach.

which mean that those properties would be even cheaper, which just reinforces the point the original poster is trying to make.

That's at Kissimmee prices, once you move out of Mickey mouse range they'll probably be a bit cheaper.

I prefer the one in France, space to grow veg. :)

Yes, those poor French and their Socialist ways. What with their high wages, excellent health care system and very high standard of living; must be hell for them.

true,

but are you factoring in location?

i dont doubt you, but am reluctant to just say yay. For example, i saw a place in bulgaria for £1k, but it really was in the middle of nowhere, where would you work? where would you shop? Your children?

even so,

Yeah, idiots in the UK pay over the odds for property, wether it's in spain, italy, the US or here, in the UK.

The people of the UK need to learn high house prices are a bad thing. We need to stop the ramping and tax the profits from house sales.

We need an economy built on manufacturing, innovation, skills, quality and intellectual property, not housing, hairdressing and horrific coffee.

The rest of the world want to speak English so they can progress, we should be at that top of the pile not sniffling about for the crap at the bottom.

We, in the uk, have become Aarshgnoddle im afriad.

Note: Aarshgnoddle is Pensylvanian German/Dutch for..welll If you can find out let everyone know

That would be a charity

A charity is worse than waging a war - it makes sure the receivers of the charity never suffer to full extent and never take up their arms

A ponzi scheme will only then go properly down when it is allowed to ripen and fall by itself, not forced to go down - this is why 1.2% from the NW was an extremely good news

Yes, location will also be an issue with such comparissons. But you show me any house, anywhere in the UK for 150K that approach the deisrability or any of those places, ( i.e. land, views, weather, swimming pool, good access to continental europe ( or disney land ) ) and I'll buy it tomorrow ( though i'd only offer 80% of asking ;-) )

'.............The people of the UK need to learn high house prices are a bad thing'.

Fear not. In the coming years of belt tightening this is a lesson that will be learnt, learnt and learnt again especially as the heavily in-debted start to feel the pain of increasing interest rates.

Just as it was once fashionable to say how much you paid for an item of clothing and now the converse is true so too will become houses (or the size of the mortgage attached to it).

Here's a (purely random) similar take on this topic. Underlying land prices.

Compare these two plots in similar(?) sort of environments - one in UK one in France. On a per acre basis the French plot works out to about only 60% of the UK plot (and bear in mind too that its being advertised by a UK company appealing to Uk buyers looking to move abroad - hence at a premium to what you might be able to buy such a plot for yourself directly in France?).

The French plot has permission to build, whereas the UK plot doesnt (merely the speculative hope it MAY be granted permission to build).

It's not quite that straight-forward though. Take France for example - there's no argument that you can get a much better bargain for a property, but most people will need to speak the language fluently to have a slim chance of get any sort of job there (as I'm sure everyone knows, the employment situation is not great in France and you'll be competing with locals). You'll pay about 10% of the property price in taxes which you can kiss goodbye and yearly taxe d'habitation depending on the size of your property and land. Unless you're working for an employer or wish to risk working on the black, cash in hand, the State will milk you with cotisation costs each year. Get anything wrong on your tax returns and you'll be heavily penalised if you're not careful, and accountants will bleed you dry, not to mention the crap exchange rate. Fuel, goods and food are no cheaper than the UK, and in many cases, they are actually quite a bit more expensive. Without private insurance you have to pay for healthcare, and claim a percentage of it back, but there's no doubt the healthcare system is much better than the UK's.

As for Florida... Never been, but between the alligators, humidity, tornadoes, American healthcare system etc. etc. you would have to be quite passionate about the place.

If you spend some time in the Houses of Twisters you can get quite a few of those and all paid for by the taxpayer and spend some time in all of them now and again and they're all your second homes.

After all as the Twisters Fees Office says "Transparency damages democracy" :o:o
