Empty Homes Scandal

Recommended Posts

MORE than 50,000 homes are empty in Greater Manchester – while tens of thousands more people are on housing waiting lists.

The lists have risen above 100,000 across the area’s 10 councils, according to figures from the government and independent charity, the Empty Homes Agency.

Charge them an empty property tax I say. Would help increase the coffers and reduce speculative buying where a property is commonly left vacant so they can get a quicker sale.

Empty property tax - should it be X3 or X5 council tax?

Don't you get a reduction for an empty property / second home (or maybe no charge at all)?

I think you'll find they're all second homes belonging to James Purnell MP :P

I've thought for a long time now that the Empty Homes argument is a bit of a red herring

the number of empty homes has been roughly the same for at least 20 years in spite of periodic publicity and ensuing initiatives - I think in realtiy that nothing can be done to graetly reduce the number

it reminds me a bit of the governemnt spin when they defend unemplyment rises by saying there are a million job vacancies

and the problem is it gives NIMBies an argument to oppose sensible planning rules
