And that future is bright if the UK ascends from the corrupt, servile, divisive party politics of the present to that of independent MP's, people who actually care and are capable, sensible people.

I'd vote for Terry.

Select a few others, I'll start,

Paddy Ashdown - okay he was an MP, but a jolly fine fellow.

Terry Waite..... bit too much of a God-botherer for my taste.

Paddy Pants-down would be ok, but my vote for PM would go to Jimmy Carr, and for First Minister north of the border, Billy Connolly. PMQ and FMQ's would be a joyous thing, and I doubt they could do any more damage than the previous two governments we've seen!

It's time to smash the political parties. We need more independents to stand.

Yep. Populated by people from real life rather than career politics.

If there is only one party but many independents, then even a small party that is organised (and whipped) well will run rings around the majority.

And organising a bunch of famous celebrities will be like herding cats I guess -- Michael Winner was just putting his manifesto in the Daily Wail as well, now that should be fun...

So, encouraging this may be fun, but it's a recipe for even more anarchy and corruption than we've suffered already.

In an ideal world, at this point, the Queen would take the place over now and when all our current MPs are safely tucked into the dungeon for their treason offences (and assorted fraud) and/or dispatched by the henchman, we can go back to democracy, after we've rebuilt the required basis for that (if such a thing is possible at all).

Yes, this was a nagging problem in the back of my dysfunctional tiny mind, how to organise them. Herding cats is a lovely term for it.

Celebrity only through what they have actually achieved rather then Big Brother/Pop culture type stuff.

Can't see him voting to support 42 days detention because it's good for his career though ;)

The problem is with no mainstream political party to align themselves with they'll be forced to hitched their wagon to whatever local issue is currently popular.

Parliament could descend into an obsession with the parochial - Next to speak the RT Hon member form the 'stop the dog poo in the park' party.

Where did I see that wonderfully cynical comment about him wheeling a radiator around to remind people who he was

I remember his bike being chained to the railings outside Canterbury Cathedral for years.....

And "like Terry Waite's allotment" has now entered the dictionary of course...

Well OK it's the Viz swearing dictionary, but it's a great description all the same :P
