Where Best To Get A Government Job

Recommended Posts

I really want the job monitoring cctv cameras, there is a civvy section of the police force isn't there?

Where do I look for a civil / public service job? (mid-level)

Wales - 6 in 8 workers in the Public Sector.

Interestingly, the Western Mail which used to be full of page after page of PS jobs each Thursday is now down to about 2 pages of job adverts so even the PS in Wales appears to have stopped hiring... and it is only May... April being the time of year when the PS gets new budgets and April/May are usually the golden hiring period each year.

It would be so great, watching the telly and shouting at people. I may be over qualified.

I did data entry for Hillingdon council when I was 18. There was a sign in the staff only toilets asking people not to smear feaces on the walls of the cubicles, which put me off somewhat. Oh, only if I had known then what riches may have awaited me, I might have climbed that er, greasy, pole after all.

Because some people obviously need telling...

It does look fun, actually. We have a CCTV monitoring centre in the local council I work for, that monitors the borough. I've been in their a few times to fix their computers - great if you're nosey, but makes you realise how much you're being watched! You might even see someone you know doing something they shouldn't

There's this site for starters, that has public sector jobs - http://www.jobsgopublic.com/

Facking hell! I hope you are taking the piss here?

Are there any other HPCers who would consider working for the UK Stasi?

There's probably quite a few that already do...

They're the ones who were most priced out a few years ago, but who might be about the only people who can afford anything soon...

Ask an uncle/cousin/brother who also works in the public sector (high-level).

Failing that, look in the Grauniad, it's packed full of pointless but high paying public sector jobs. If you get an interview it's best to behave in such a way that indicates you would be unable to find a post in the private sector, it's a kind of means testing they deploy.

What do the remaining 2 in 8 do? Work constructing and maintaining public buildings or private IT contractors on public projects?

:D

A friend, who was for years a very consistent dealer, was finally forced into teaching by the dole office. He has kept up with it, and is now training community support officers. Funny old world.
