Let Universities Raise Fees To £5,000, Says Access Watchdog

Recommended Posts

What caused the collapse was a credit bubble which was allowed to form because the government needed the tax revenues from the City and house sales to pay the huge benefit bill and the massively expanded public sector wage bill.

And the conservatives do the same thing - though they obviously don't do it to pay the same public sector wage bill.

Like i said you are talking about motivations (which vary from one political class to another)

The motivation is unwillingness to accept that their political ideology is bankrupt

The cause is - the money ran out

And that is my last attempt to explain my position in these terms because we are going round in circles

And the conservatives do the same thing for slightly differently shaped slices of power - hence the usa.

Don't let the facts get in the way

I'm getting a little old for debating education but my opinion is that British universities struggle to design courses that equip graduates with the skills for working in a skilled job or profession. For example there is a huge shortage of skilled engineers for the water industry and most are being poached from France and Germany. The reason being is that we are producing good science degrees but students are not being made to focus their study on a set career...and thus hone their skills to that job. Therefore we are no match for the Germans or the French.

With so much money involved it seems crazy to have good job prospects at the end of it. Only the rich can afford to use university as life experience....the rest of us have to make it pay.
