Some Antiques Or Collectibles Worth Less Or Half What They Were 10 Years Back

Recommended Posts

Watching daytime tv, not all of it brain-numbing

Time and again am hearing "this is worth £800 or £1000 now, 10 years ago it'd have fetched £2000 to ..."

So what with inflation since 1999, anyone who thought antiques or collectibles ALL only go up has been sadly mistaken.

All things seem to get in & out of fashion and priced accordingly. What will be tomorrow's half-price items? Houses?

I don't know about houses, but everything else in the art/antiques world is subject to fashion/economics and even political attitudes. The best Pre-Rapaelite paintings were initially highly prized, then out of favour, then Andrew Lloyd Webber bought most of them, then they were worth a fortune again!

Small modern houses, and light woods have changed demand in the salerooms.

Like the economy, it's all cycles...
