This is WRONG, a crime has been committed here and a full investigation should be invoked. She should be made to pay any fraudulently acquired monies back the public. If this was any other regular Joe, they would have been had under the proceeds of crime act, all their assets frozen etc while under investigation. This is WRONG we must not allow this one to pass under the radar.

The trouble is that MPs' rules (if you can call them that) are far too lax.

If JS is paying her sister £100 a week rent, then that's what she should be claiming. Plus any %age of C tax/bills etc. she also pays.

Expenses are supposed to be just that - expenses.

All this 1st/2nd home business is a fiddlers' charter. Obviously many MPs will need to buy* or rent a London property, but they should get back only what they actually have to spend.

*It'd be interesting to see how many would say they are obliged to buy, since they can't risk being booted out on the whim of evil landlords. Perfectly acceptable for everyone else, of course, but unlike the rest of us MPs are far too busy to have to bother with tiresome flat-hunting.

What would the situation be if an MP was in negative equity when they come to sell? I bet we would somehow pick up the tab.
