New Town

If you have an hour to spare, watch the first episode of "New Town" on BBC4. It should be on the BBC IPlayer by now.

Its a whodunnit set in the New Town in Edinburgh. But it takes a healthy swipe at the Edinburgh property obsession. Particularly the second half of the program. Hilarious.

Yes, I found it highly entertaining. It has been mentioned on here already, albeit tucked away in the never-ending ‘Edinburgh latest’ thread.

I’m still puzzled as to whether it is a series or was just a one-off. I think the latter, although it was inconclusive as a whodunnit, and I’ve seen mention of it being a series … but there was no trailer for a second part, and it doesn’t seem to be listed for the same time next week.

My apologies, I never went through the "Edinburgh latest" posts in detail. I thought it was odd no-one seemed to have mentioned it.

I assumed it was a series as we never found out for sure who dunnit. I particularly enjoyed the mad wife bullying her husband into buying the flat.

I expect that it is a pilot episode which may or may not be commissioned into a series

Seems like it - TV Review Scotsman

It got a good review anyway. I thought it was hilarious, especially the bitchy, nouveau-riche estate agent and the psycho wife haranguing her husband into an early grave over his unwillingness to shell out vast sums of money for 'the right address'. I also liked the way they portrayed £600k for a 3-bed flat with a pokey kitchen as madness.

Edinburgh looked beautiful too. The city doesn't sell itself enough in that respect, although of course if it did, it would raise the spectre of Krusty and Phil showing up blaring at all and sundry that Edinburgh is 'futureproof' and that the entire population of the UK should get on the ladder here quick before all 59.5m of them are priced out - FOREVER...!
