Aston Martin On The Brink

If this is true then the actual shame is that the traditional skills will be lost. The reason that even tough Bentley and Rolls Royce are German owned, it is the traditional skills of how to build a semi hand made luxury car are in the UK. What I mean here is the hand made leather seats, the other upholstry skills for the interior and the furniture skills for the wood in the interior.

They may be different to pressing buttons on a machine to build a seat but they are more valuable. Any Chinese man can press a button.

So if Aston do go down I would view it as a shame for all of the skilled workforce in the factory.

i dont think they want to look like a prat, but because of the nature of the one uppishness of a bmw,

it comes with the plates.

i doubt many top car drivers realise what prats they look like sat in traffic like everyone else.

im my mind theres nothing dumber looking that an old fart in a yellow ferrari passing by all driving gloves and magnum sunglasses. a spent force. or a porsche driver who thinks the car reflects his ambition, when all it reflects to me is selfishness and hubris.

granted, once i had a beemer and a good one, i had it a year. brilliant drive granted, but at the lights i felt i was trying to portray an image of what i wasnt. after all, most of the money i spent on the BMW was on the outside for everyone elses benefit. i couldnt see it form the plastic inside. and it still only could go 70mph same as a £400 used escort. all the engine money was wasted. as was the upped handling etc, cos when i needed the bend blend the speed limit was 30mph, not 90mph like it was engineered for corners like that. in order to feel the engineering benefit i had to drive it illegally.

i looked like a tit.

and i lost 8k.

There are undoubtedly examples to support your stereotype, but judging everyone purely by what vehicle they drive is more than a little foolish.

I do wonder if sometimes there's any way past this perception thing.

I drive a Subaru Impreza. Not the Sti but the nice little 2.0l turbo WRX. It's not aspiration but yet I'm still entirely sure it's a cocks car. But it is better to drive than my bird's renault clio. Which quite frankly is like driving a hairdryer.

You may not get to enjoy the top end in a better car but it's not all about top end is it?

To me if someone can genuinely afford to buy a porsche, ferrari, Aston whatever it's up to them. It's the twats that borrow in order to do so that get on my wick. There's a bloke at my work who owns a Range Rover sport. He earns 20k a year. He is also a complete ****.

I know a guy who earns about 20k too. He drives a White Hummer (yes they do make them). I played golf with him (as part of a group of 8) and in the carpark he showed me his Versace 'driving slippers' which he says cost £300. Needless to day, he is also a **** and I hate him

What do you drive now to make you look cool then?

a citroen c4. cheap. functional. quite nice actually. suprising. used of course.

bought at bca auction 23k miles. 06. £3700.

Ferrari are owned by Fiat, so the same applies here, yeah???

probably. without the volume of fiat steel purchase discounts and the like, ferrari would be gone probably.

as before. its a big car maker with a side order of dick fries.

aka: ronaldo

as if by magic, i had one too. again to drive it to its design i had to break the law and risk others lives.

another thing was nice girls dont recognise subaru's. they think its your dads toyota estate thats been driven through halfords additional ectras department. so only hoodies and street wise girls like them as you try to look cool driving around.

but a street wise girl can be a gold mine partner given the right re-education....

again. fantastic engine, but stupid fuel consumption and i felt worse than the beemer, though this was a used one id swapped for a landrover id got bored of.

id agree with the borrow bit of your post. if i won the lottery, well id be expected to act like a tit.

id get a helicopter and everything. the element of showing off would be lost at that point.

id just be having a blast. even if i earned 3 mill a year id get one. but id have to be STINKING rich.

not aspirational. id have to have no cares at all financially. no job. nothing but boredom and money.

i suppose ill concede, if you have money to BURN buy these things, but dont expect admiration for aspiration.

(excluding gold diggers). you will just end up in debt with a wife that cheats on you as soon as the pot goes dry and the financial pressure starts up.

You're assuming that someone else was

a, noticing you

b, giving a flying t0ss about what car you're sitting in

c, making assumptions based on the car about you

I think you'll find most people don't care what you're doing. Thankfully theres not many people like you looking at everyone in their cars and tutting about it shaking their head like some kind of mental inferiority complex loony.

i know. thats why i bought it. a,b and c. i fully agree. i thought it would improve my life in some way.

after all, the brochures showed quite an active lifestyle associated with the vehicle.

but at least i was one of the few owners who saw though what i was doing and put it into reverse.

now im not bothered as long as its warm and im not walking.

and people DO sit looking around at other peoples cars with inferiority complexes. thats how they sell them at a premium. once again. a £400 used ford escort is more or less as efficient and as practical and fast as any BMW on any uk road.

people dare not put £400 escorts on their drives because they want their neighbors to think they are doing better than them.

Ok SOME people look at other peoples cars with envy, but I think it's wrong to assume that people have bought the car because they want other people to envy them. I dont care what other people think about what Im driving, and don't assume anyone notices, but I don't want an old escort. For me its worth stumping up some cash for a decent motor. They're nicer to drive, nicer interior, more toys, and even within the speed limits you'd get more fun out of driving a decent car than an old ford. And who drives within the speed limits anyway?

People might envy other peoples cars, but I don't, if people envy mine its not my intention to create that response (or any response), its not me with a problem its them!

My bird drives a clio too. But i made her buy a blue one with a 2 litre engine in it. More fun that way.

also, my bird drives a Clio, but I made her get a 1.2 T reg so as not to have a better can than me. Is it mandatory for all women of a certain age to drive Clios?

What model of Aston does Bond drive in "The Living Daylights"? I love that car. Far better looking than the one in Goldfinger that everyone raves about.

Only downside to it is that I think Rio Ferdinand has one.

Rio has a Vanquish. With plate R10 FER

how do I know this? Because the nob is always doubled parked outside Est Est Est in Alderley Edge everytime I drive past

I stopped driving 20 years ago. I just could not stand doing it and I did not need it in my life as I lived in London.

However, I have toyed with buying an Aston if they got incredibly cheap. They are beautiful cars and I do not say that about many cars. I would just put it in the garage and look at it, however, I might just have to pay someone to take it to a track and then get a tame racing driver to teach me to drive properly.

I got a colection of photos of Elise crashes....those that killed the driver & those that didn't....

Usally a loss of control by the driver, either as a result of rear suspension collaspe or snap oversteer because of its high roll centre & short wheel base.

Wasn't there a story about Aston Martin in the 60's where the owner showed around the factory another wealthy individual and at the end he ask if he could buy a car at cost which ultimately was more expensive than the showroom price?

It was an American film star, he said something like "I'll help promote your company, but I want a car, I'm a fair man, I'll pay the cost price", the reply came, "That's great! And £2000 more than the customers are paying".

I think that might be Morgan though :/

Is it true that 06/56 DB9s in similar condition can be had for about 10 grand more?

Anyone know why same aged V8 Vantage's and DB9 are essentially the same price?
