Treasury Must Declare The True Cost Of Bailout

Recommended Posts

Alistair Darling should tell taxpayers the true cost of his multibillion-pound schemes to bail out the banking system, MPs demand.

A critical report from a Labour-dominated Commons committee, published today, says that the Treasury is failing to reveal the “significant liabilities” it assumed when it took over ailing financial institutions.

In the document, the Chancellor is told that the Treasury must behave like a public company and publish accounts at least every three months. The disclosures must be as comprehensive as those made by the big corporations and go farther than purely meeting minimum accounting standards, the MPs say. They add that Monday’s “Bailout 2” package from the Government, including a scheme to insure toxic assets, makes full accountability even more important.

The demand from the Treasury Select Committee comes after a year in which the Government has nationalised Northern Rock and Bradford & Bingley, and partly taken over Royal Bank of Scotland and Lloyds Banking Group.

So how does one measure a leveraged blackhole?

I don't think Darling can reveal the cost because he has no idea, and any figure which would even start to look truthful would be so huge the public would all shit themselves at once.

black holes cant be seen, but they do put out radiation. the bigger the hole, the more the radiation.

Suggest that the size of the bonuses paid before crash, would be an excellent indication of the size of the current black hole.
