Buying Overseas

Recommended Posts

Most of the UK dealers seem to be very low on gold coins and are charging a high premium on the ones they have.

Can you get a better price buy ordering coins from overseas?

I know that gold coins sold in the UK are free from tax but would you be charged VAT or customs duty on imports?

There is no VAT on gold coins. As to prices they vary as between various dealers all the time, so shop around.

I find CoinInvest are usually better value than many. A British registered company with a warehouse in Frankfurt and operating under German law.

Yes, don't worry about VAT..there is no VAT on gold!

To be honest, I normally deal with CoinInvest as well, and besides the prices, what really makes the difference is the amount of stock they have available. ;)

I tried buying gold coins with other dealers and not only the amounts they had to offer were ridiculous as the delivery could take up to 1 month after I paid...

Can you imagine what that represents for an investor?

At least at CoinInvest what you see is what you get and if you buy from them the delivery is almost immediate.

I've just asked a customer of mine who is a jewler about some gold, he put me in contact with his dealer, I was charged a little (approx 2%) over spot for 7 of them. Yes there are these big bys out there, but if your only buying for gold value not numistic reasons then speak to your local guys.
