Oh, Vienna! Can we now turn off the lights and never let any Scotsman ruin the UK economy ever again. By the way, I'm a Glaswegian!!

The Royal Penny Dreadful

Not much further to say on RBS — down 22p or 63 per cent at 13p. We’ll let the picture do the talking…

This is scarey stuff. I have my business account with RBS, I'm a sole trader and it has about £20K in it most of the time. Do I need to worry about this being safe? I'm already worried what am I talking about!

I thought we basically owned them now and so they can't go bust but what the hell is happening?

Your money is safe, the government own it now.The fall is due to the fact the equity in the business is worthless. Not the deposits.

Safe as in your 20k,what that 20k will be worth soon is anyones guess.

11.8p -22.80 (-65.71%) ROYAL BK SCOTL GR (RBS.L)

10.8.

I call 3:30 as the 10.00 mark, unless it gets nationalised before then.

Edit: And that's why I don't play the markets, leddyzangenz.

Brown Broadcasting Corp will try and keep this quiet, don't want the sheep to panic.

RBS is now the cheapest that any bank shares have been including northern rock and B and B before bbeing nationalised. I think it will have to be nationalised today also

There must be a lot of people checking the share price via the business pages of the bbc website, it keeps crashing. Up to 11.60p!!!

Edited: How is shorting resolved if a bank is nationalised and there are no shares to buy back? Is the trade retrospectively wiped out, i.e. you have to give the money back?

According to Gordon, the bailouts were supposed to restore confidence in the banks.

It ain't workin' is it. From day one.

It's those damn Americans, its all there fault. If only RBS hadn't lent them any money it would all be fine.

So it looks like the taxpayer will own RBS, NR and B&B not bad going is it. No other PM has ever achieved this.

Anyone else getting the horrible feeling that it was Gordons cunning plan all along to nationalise the banks ?
