Rejoice rejoice! Chatted with an acquaintance a fortnight ago who bought a nice 'new build' 2 br flat in 2009. I think he paid around £135k for it, which I thought was an eye watering amount even back then. He boasted that it's now worth £188k Me: 'Who decided that it's worth £188k? Zoopla?' Him: 'The mortgage co'. Apparently remortgaged. Seemed to me like a figure plucked out of thin air by the mortgage co. Electric heating and open plan kitchen & living room aside, it's quite nice but isn't worth £188k in my opinion. Still, at least he's enjoying a low interest rate on account of the (artificially?) low LTV.
