  1. Was very successful in the 1920s I believe, helped bring in rent control and lifetime tenancies. £55-65/wk housing benefit rate for under 35s where I live. Single room in a terraced house + bills included is all you can get for that. I reckon I could afford up to £400 a month rent only, for my own flat, if I top up HB with my income. Most people under 40 where I live seem to be in a similar situation. But out of the 149 properties up for rent within 10 miles of my location (on rightmove) there are 6 or so £400 or under. Yes many are being reduced but a £475 to £450 reduction is still no use. I imagine it's similar across the country. We need big drops. A rent strike might push the BTLers out faster than a HPC. Let's do this.
