  1. I doubt they'll be going at Bournville. Apparently they've invested a lot of money making the Borunville factory into one of the most efficient in the country.
  2. You want to know why no one stood up? Have a read of this: http://www.islamonline.net/servlet/Satelli...aEAskTheScholar 'Islam is nothing without politics' said the Ayatollah Khomenei. For a Muslim there is no church, state, religion or politics. Only Islam. It's why you can get 2 million British marching in London to protest against a war we're waging yet you struggle to find a single so-called 'moderate' Muslim that isn't an apologist for suicide bombings. By definition all Muslims agree implicity with the suicide bombers aims - it's what separates their philosophy from ours. An extreme Muslim will blow himself up so that Islam can dominate A moderate Muslim will enter politics so Islam can dominate An extreme christian will blow others up to achieve Christian dominance A moderate christian doesn't believe that Christianity should dominate at all. It;s a fundamental deifference in thinking, and the reason why we should all be a little worried about the rise of Islam in this country, whether the liberal left like it or not. Just remember the words of the Ayatollah: 'Islam without politics is nothing'.
  3. I wouldn't trust anything thrown up by alexa. I'm part of a team running a site about 5 times as large as our nearest rivals in terms of traffic and 3 times as large in terms of members, yet they always come out ahead of us on alexa. I think it's because one of their tech guys is (frustratingly) excellent and very good at hacking stuff like this.
  4. Whilst any old tom dick or jane can call up any number of finance companies and purchase a millstone. It would be funny if it wasn't so tragic. When I opened my current account with A+L after all the formalities had been finalised the customer services lad started giving it all the spiel trying to flog me iodentity theft insurance. I declined politely pointing out that if the bank was more rigorous in who it lent money to in the first place identity theft might not be such an issue.
  5. We used to get a bag of scraps for nowt. Let you put your own salt and vinegar on too. Strange thing is after eating copious amounts of deep fried batter covered in even more copious amounts of salt and vinegar as a child I am not obese as an adult, nor I have I developed hypertension, gut problems or diabetes. Get 6 aftershocks for a fiver in Wetherspoons. That'll see you right. Although in Morrisons you can 60 cans of Carlsberg for £20!! Make no wonder all the local pubs are empty.
  6. Yes it's quite something to behold. Unlike your charm and wit.
  7. Or that Not the only one that's sketchy on detail though. I'd like to know what that other smug git tara's so-called recession proof job is.
  8. I think he's missing the point. In a balanced healthy economy you could afford a home AND a few pints on a weekend.
  9. You must be the smuggest git in forum land. I bet you're a right barrel of laughs.
  10. My favourite is when some telesales cretin calls you and asks for your name and address 'for security purposes'. eh? How does that work then? It's hardly secure to be giving my details out to the first tom dick or harry who calls claiming to be from my bank. So now I always ask them for their name, address, location, company and payroll number before proceeding. Most realise it's not worth the effort of dealing with someone like me and just hang up.
  11. Interesting one this. Has anyone noticed an increase in the incidence of paying with a tenner and having to take your change all in coins as they have no fivers? Seems to happen to me regularly, and it's incredibly annoying. Have you got anything smaller? Yes of course, I'm just breaking into a £10 note for a laugh you cretin. I've spent a £5 coin aswell, they're perfectly legal tender.
  12. This must be a common thing. I had my reg plates nicked, reported it got a crime ref. etc., 4 weeks later the police turn up at my mums to arrest me for robbing a petrol station.
  13. Indeed. Probably yearns for a return to the days of Maggie Thatcher too. She'd sort out these airy fairy feminist types wanting equal pay no problem, and the public sector whilst she's at it. And the immigrants. And the layabouts. And the socialists. Aye, the two of the most respected scientists/engineers I know are women. They are slightly doolally though, I think the recognition that they need to work twice as hard as a man to earn the same status in their chosen profession means that only the slightly deranged women really make it. They're both brilliant company though.
  14. eh? Are you suggesting that the vast majority of goods carried nationally don't go by road? Bugger the NHS, if the truckers went on strike for a month and blockaded the ports we would see some SERIOUS changes to the way things are run. They just need to grow some balls. I'd be prepared to undergo a month or two of hardship and support them all the way. Imagine what would happen when not just the petrol stations but the pubs run dry. Gulp.
  15. Isn't there some kind of insurance premium they add on to subprime mortgages too? That could well be on a variable rate.
  16. I'm 27 and got all 4, achieved under new labour: Degree: PhD Pension: Final salary Kids: 1 Home: Decent size 3 bed flat, which hopefully will be sold soon. Although I'm not going to be losing any sleep if it's not. Life's a bit of a struggle at the mo as the missis only works part time and the nipper is expensive but we've come to terms with the fact that this is the skintest we'll probably ever be as we both have reasonably secure jobs with good salary progression.
  17. Cos its got a massive fukk off tyre factory next door. Even Blair would have trouble spinning that into a positive feature. The old fort dunlop is now a travelodge and various business units. It used to be a nice building till they built a big square bright blue (and frankly bizarre) extension on the side of it.
  18. Yes, yes, of course. I bet you couldn't sort a filing cabinet.
  19. Yes. Of course it is I'll tell you what's a b@st@rd's trick, conning the authorities out of the hard earned taxes I give to them. I, like many others are just trying to get along in life - with varying degrees of success. Crminals of this kind, whilst telling you 'I'm just trying to make a living guvnor' are just scum sucking parasites. However, that's not to say I find all crime morally unacceptable. Robbing a bank, or cheating a casino for instance would see my blind eye turned without a second thought. But benefit fraud? no way.
  20. I might be wrong on this, but I think Jaguar and Land Rovers share much the same technology so it would make sense for any company to buy them, both together. I don't hold out much hope for either though personally. When these two go the West Mids is totally scoobied.
  21. Well we've got two people coming round to view at the weekend, so we'll see what happens. The market is slow though in general round here so I'm not expecting much, although we're under no pressure to sell, we've just outgrown the place. The only restriction on the sale is that they get 12 weeks to find us a buyer, then it can go on the open market. I'm pretty confident we'll get a buyer within about 3-4 months, it might end up on the open market but it's not something I'm losing any sleep over.
  22. I can't see a problem, especially with the 4 beds. As has been pointed out many times the fees for selling a 4 bed runs away into the many thousands anyway, who's going to quibble over a few hundred quid? When it gets phased into the 3 and 2 beds then no one will actually want to market a house as 2 or 1 bed respectively as they'll be seriously damaging their valuation.
  23. Where to start? I suppose with markG seeing as his was the oddest argument. Right, look at the OP: Now look at MarkGs rebuttal of my point that in a credit crunch it will be easier to finance half a mortgage than a full one: You see what he did there? In the process of trying to make me out to be an idiot he slipped in a little £220k (84% !!!) nominal fall. Now what does he do next? Claim that a credit crunch won't be so severe as to stop someone buying something for twice their salary. So you can pick and choose the severity of the crash to suit your argument but not the severity of the credit crunch? Do you think that's a sound reasoned argument? 84% nominal falls? Right: here's my attempt at a similar reasoned argument. It's been suggested that houses have overshot by 65% (i.e are 1.65 times the price they should be). Now lets assume in a crash that's an average figure. Some places have overshot by 20%, others (lets say shared equity flats) by 100%. Now lets assume a worst case scenario that a crash happens overnight, and in the morning your shared equity flat is worth half of what it was yesterday. That makes the OPs flat worth £130k, or £65k for a 50% share. Now that's a perfectly reasonable figure for a young person on £20k a year looking to take first step into owning. No? Right let's look at some other points: Not overpriced. All valuations are independant, or at least they are with HA. Some HAs require 3 independant valuations. Selling is not a labyrinthine process. Or no more so than any other place. I'm going through selling one at the minute, it went like this: me: Hi, I'd like to sell our share them: Ok i'll get the forms out in the post me: Thanks. 6 days later a surveyor turns up, 5 days after that we have a valuation, day after that I'd signed it and given the OK for them to contact people on their waiting list. Pain in the ****? Yes. Mores o than for any other property? no. Labyrinthine? Come on, fess up. You were just trying to make out you knew what you were talking about weren't you? Only liable for internal repairs. Plumbers, Electricians, Glazers, Gardeners, Roofers etc. all free. Well when I say free, you have to pay a service charge, but you have to pay a service charge when you own a flat outright. And it means you don't get whacked with £1000 plumbers bills and the like. You see it's not really sensible to bash SO JUST because it's SO. There are some good opportunities out there, or relatively good anyway. The question the OP should really have asked is: 'Is my colleague wise to buy a property now?' To which the answer is always: 'It depends on his circumstances' Easy as that.
