  1. Such short memories, no wonder the same mistakes are made over & over again. FTSE currently 5,711 with the highest recorded was 30th December 1999 when it reached 6930.2 points .Still a long way off it's highest.
  2. 100k house increases 100% = 200k house 200k house decreases 50% = 100K house money illusion
  3. I work for QQ. Staff at the company are to recieve £500 of free shares held in trust for 3 years plus we are able to buy more at a preferencial rate but why private investors are not allowed I have no Idea, the idea of Gordon Brown selling off for a quick buck isn't true as they originally wanted to float in 2001/2 but the SM was having somewhat of a bad time so it was delayed.
  4. another completely insighful post TTRTR. well done
  5. Seeing the Same Marina, It's all the evidence I need (South West). You can fool some of the people some of the time .......................
  6. How EXACTLY ????????????? & If your doing so well why are you living in Sweden, I know I've lived there. There really is more to life than money
  7. TTRTR I'll try & make it simple enough so that even you can understand. I know you can turn water into wine unfortunatly I can't, so I have to play with the cards i'm dealt, I work & live in Salisbury so that is all i'm worried about. If i'd listened to you I would be a lot worse off than this time 12 months ago (I could of taken my money out of my FTSE tracker & bought & house under your recommendation ..... I didn't & feel a lot better for it)
  8. What is all this talk of if house prices crash ? Where I am (Salisbury) average houses have lost about £15,000 in the last year & there's no sign of it stopping. This to me is a crash in progress. I am effectively £15,000 richer this year by doing nothing in the last 12 months. Maybe it's just my area but every week I check the local area on rightmove (with same set of search criteria) & I've seen the same old houses dropping month by month. This is all the proof I need.
  9. well not till this one has finished, you can't have 2 crashes running concurrently
  10. look at the FTSE my lovely ISA's have you had a better return than 4.75% in the last year, i'm considerably richer than this time last year just by sitting on my ar** as opposed to you two just talking from yours
  11. Hark do I hear the sound of a barrel being scraped, (again) going from +20% to +3% (not my area -0.3% & also not taking into account inflation at oh 3% in the last year or so). Looks like I've lost a packet by not buying & leaving my money earning 4.5%. Oh & thanks for your well thought out opinions about the direction of IR's . Jackpot, another winner. if a 17% downward swing is a positive sign then long may it continue (as it will) step away from the spendrups
  12. I can promise you It is true...question me as you like. Why is it so hard to believe that some body left school at 16, got a job (at below average wage and still is (basic)) and has managed to save that amount (admittedly the 30k I got in 1989), by being an honest hard working citizen. I really have done nothing special..... work it out. p.s. I think you'll find it's Mr Knob head to you P.P.S if it wasn't for the SM crash (the only speculative investment I've made) I would have more. P.P.s if you really had done the maths, I would of been a lot better of buying in 1989 when I got that 30K, so there's no really no troll.
  13. Just over 170K depending on the SM (for about 40K of it) which I feel may tank some more, but i'm used to that I have several accounts (some in the GF's name, ISA's etc), so when it does happen (about 2 yrs I reckon) the money will come in drips & draps so I'm not sure how it all works, so any advice would be gratefully welcomed. P.S. As an aside the GF has no Idea how much of a deposit I have (I've been with her 11 yrs now) should or how do I tell her & do you think she will have a paddy (she has had to put up with me being a minger) when I do buy a place (getting slurred now........been drinking) cheers
  14. Yeah know how it must seem, but this is genuine & I have saved / worked hard for the last 18 years to get as far as I have. I'm 32 been in digs since the age of 16 driven only modest cars (currently running a pre millenium Fiesta) & worked on average a 50 hr week in that time on a lower than average basic income All bar 30K is money I've earned by working hard. I did get greedy in 1998 & put half my life saving into the SM & we know what happened there but I kept putting money in post/during crash & now & broken even plus some (still would of been better of in the bank), which is why I never jumped on the HP band wagon (losing money really hurts especially if you've actually worked for it) anyway another stoopid question follwing on from whoops_apocalypse response. So do I presume the Law society governs all Lawers registered in the UK & do they have some compo scheme if things go wrong cheers
  15. sorry if this is a bit off topic , but when I do buy I will have a huge cash deposit & if i'm correct about my own predictions for the market will be able to buy outright in the next couple of years. my question is who would I actually pay the money to & how well protected will I be from just running away with the cash & seeing no sign of a house. Sory if it sounds stoopid but it is a serious question, after all this effort I don't want to take any risks TIA
  16. i'd prefer him in black & blue myself
  17. nice one perplexed at last someone with the right priorities perhaps thats why you have achieved your goals. sorry quite new to this forum, if you dont mind me asking how old are you Perplexed?
  18. think there may be some sort of error on rightmove. I do the same regular check it's gone from 100 to 120 then back to 100 in an hour
  19. As you know better than everyone on this forum could you tell me for what possible reason the prime minister would call the election so early (as predicted) when everything is looking so rosy everywhere and only going to get better. thanks in advance
  20. yeah where's TTRTR when you need him, care to give sesible replies to this article or just plump for the usual pointless gloating
