  1. I read now is a good time buy them as their price has dropped due to higher rates whilst also benefitting from being index linked. Is that correct ?
  2. ^ This plus £600 billion Sunak handed out to all and sundry in 2020/2021.
  3. ""Where did 50K come from ? " - It's a historic bench mark as in it was the figure for net migration prior to Blair coming to power in 1997 and had been at that level or lower for years. Which is why various Tory politicians have used it as a target. Then New Labour decided to rub the working classes noses in it, to quote one of his advisors, and it increased to around 250K to 300K a year; and it's been that figure or higher since the mid 2000's. Then Johnson upped it further, hence 2022 figure and the population has subsequently grown by around 12 million since 1997.
  4. We are heading in a very bad direction, everything they've done or haven't points to that.
  5. Apparently, food is a necessity, housing not so much ... 🤣
  6. "Record immigration has driven up rents by 8pc as fears mount that Michael Gove’s reforms will trigger a further drop in supply. A huge number of people moving into the rental market from overseas was behind the bulk of the record rent growth recorded across the UK over the last year, new analysis shows. Imogen Pattison, of Capital Economics, said net immigration had led to new demand for an extra 205,000 rental homes." https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2023/05/28/record-immigration-drives-rents-britain/
  7. We'll be lucky to get to 5.5% IR's, let alone 10%. They are now bringing in food price controls, so clearly they will try everything possible before actually doing the rational thing and raise IR's.
  8. Which of the two protects the value of their assets i.e. property the best ? It will be which ever that one is.
  9. "Rising prices are simply a symptom of a wider economic malaise. The Bank of England lost control of the money supply and left interest rates too low for too long. The government has completely lost the will to rein in its own spending, or to identify ways it could help the five million people on benefits back into work. If it tackled those issues, prices would come down very quickly, and we wouldn’t need price controls. But that would take determination and vision – so instead we will try a cheap gimmick that will only make the whole crisis even worse." ^This. A rare article which doesn't blame it all on the Ukraine/Russia war. BOE and government are hell bent on not raising interest rates to appropriate levels to control inflation, whatever the mess it creates in doing so.
  10. Fair enough about font but why is article stuuupid ?
  11. There is not a hope in hell that the BOE will follow suit, they'd rather destroy the pound.
  12. "Thanks, I'm solid on arithmetic. 50k net immigration means a total increase in population from people coming and going of 50k. I'm asking you how getting a net 50k more people into the country per year will help when we've had 500k more people leave teh work force through sickness this year. Why 50K? Why not 5k or 100K Number plucked from thin fricking air isn't it?" It was a sarcastic reply to your moan about losing 500K through sickness last year, which you then corrected to 500K in 3 years, so it's even better from your point of view.
  13. Yes of course the war is part of it but given inflation started increasing on Mar 2021, nearly one year before the war started it ain't that alone. Which the BOE, media and others parrot..
  14. Nicky Campbell had a phone in about immigration on Thursday which was exactly the same, completely one sided.
  15. He's right about that fat turd Johnson causing the current massive surge in immigration.
  16. They both do, Labour for idealogical reasons primarily, Conservatives for cheap labour and to increase house prices. Liberals want it for both reasons. The Greens are similar to Labour, whilst hypocritically w*nking on about the environment and nature, although all parties do that to be fair but given their primary policy is protection of the planet etc they are full of it.
  17. I thought that might be the case as you say. There have been reports of other "woah is me, won't you think of the renters whilst giving me a massive bung" press releases.
