  1. some views but no posts... no one lurking from epsom / kingston / twickers areas?
  2. Hello All A pretty broad location enquiry I suppose!! Bascially, there's a few areas I'm interested in living.. I currently live in N21 and 1) it's too expensive, and 2) am looking to move closer to SW for possible job/ bit of a life change, would prefer to be close to areas for mountain biking, etc but still reasonable distance to Central London. The most popular is Twickenham / st margs area but the only bit that seems affordable is near TW green and not near the mainline station. except for the varisty drive bit but I have my reservations about that! Have also been very interested in what you get for your money in kingston and also epsom area - slower train but a nice looking terrace or semi house, bit of character, near station, garden, sometimes parking etc for asking price 250k ish !Compared to London this sounds very cheap indeed, where in my current area a house is more like 300k+ My main worry is about prices going down, so would like to know how much they have already sunk in this area, there's definately looks like a glut of 2 bed houses. lots of houses with an asking price 275k ish, am curious whether they will start considering much lower overs, eg. 40k - 50k off this asking price.. All info welcome!
  3. I live in Winchmore Hill, (I taped property ladder but not seen it yet.) There is Wades hill and wades grove also, but that is terrace houses I think, one sold a month or two ago for just under 400k. When I've watched the programme I can probably figure out where it is...
  4. Hello, We were thinking of moving to st albans a short while ago. I'd say there is a glut of 2 bed "character cottages" available there at the moment, The EA's keep harassing me, there's plenty of choice but they are very small and dingy places. I saw a house in the bernards heath area late last year, it had been on at 269k (i think) and was reduced to 249k ish when we viewed, I then saw it at 229k recently with a "sold" next to it... but that was on sandbridge road, which was a busy road and we weren't that interested. Still, we viewed a cottage in abbey convervation area about 2months ago, and it got snapped up on the day for 238k. it was small but lovely house. But i'd say that almost all of them aren't selling, and are chain free... so BTLer's trying to bail out?
  5. errr.... excuse me. I'm shocked that you feel able to make such a sweeping generalisation about "woman". Now please tell me u r joking? p.s I've got better things to talk about than my pension but it doesn't mean I don' t have one!
  6. I wondered why tolworth looked affordable! now i know.... so which postcode's are decent areas of surbiton? Are these "river roads" that the EA's are going on about decent streets to live on? would prefer a character flat in nice area, than a house in dumpsville, but my problem is we want the top floor and a (secure) garden, which seems possible, but more unusual... We rent on the ground floor now. And all we hear is the unemployed scum neighbour walking across the room all night (wooden floor boards and high heels I'm sure....)
  7. Thanks for the info about hometrack graph Mycophagist, I will check this out! hey thinkchimp, I have rented in North London for over 5 years and we getting to the stage where we really want to buy our own home soon (this year!). There's a chance I might be changing job and working in Surrey soon (guildford or woking area), but my bf works in central london. So if I get the new job, we will need to relocate SW area. we want to find somewhere nice, and relatively affordable to live. But we want to stay within easy commuting distance of London. I liked the looks of Surbition, as it seems to have fast links in and out of town. In zone 6 so rail travel won't break the bank. And looks like it's near lots of parks, thames, etc. A friend use to live there and said it was "leafy and pleasant". Of course, looking at a new area to live is a daunting task. I suppose that we would have to rent there first and get to know the area before commiting to a flat/house. I've only been following the prices for property near where I live at the moment, so I've no idea what may happen to the market anywhere else! I'd have no more than 250k to spend on somewhere, and would prefer a small house to a mansion flat. Thanks for the heads up about bairstow. Nethouseprices is becoming a great resource for finding out about greedy sellers as well Cheers!
  8. Hello Am wondering if anyone knows what is happening with prices in this area right now? Any one looking to buy or trying to selling? Any info is very welcome Thanks,
  9. Perhaps there's no one from St Albans area out there but these price reductions should apply in general... I've seen a house there that started at 255k, and has been reduced to 239k and today its on at 229k.... which is a reduction of approx 10% !
  10. Thanks guys. I live in Winchmore Hill but you posts have reminded me what southgate and palmers green are really like! I think if I can't buy in N21, then I will leave london completely... I'm watching the house prices on the internet / EA windows very closely, and have noticed that most properties are now simply hanging around, some reductions, and the EA are starting to chase me up (first time ever!)
  11. we went to look around St Albans last weekend, and view a few properties to see what you get for your money there (currently living in north london, winchmore hill). It seems like nice area, with fast rail link to London ( although in today's new is rail price rises!). It seemed like every street we walked down had for sale boards out, 4 out of the 5 properties we viewed were chain free. And I had estate agents chasing me up at 9-15am the next morning!! Anyone live in this area, or also noticed the excess amount of houses available? Most have been rented by the looks of it. Any comments welcome!
  12. I'm sick of wasting money on rent, and living in rented accommodation. I've been waiting such a long time for prices to crash..... that in the end it seems like it will never happen... I only have some money as I've saved, saved, saved for the last 6 years or so.
  13. Hello! I'm new to this website. I'm wondering if anyone else is wondering what is happening to house prices in North London at the moment? I'm a FTBer interested in purchasing a house in need of renovation and would like an idea of how much I should be able to negoiate off the asking price, and am also worried about prices coming down and being stuck with a lemon I guess! All thoughts are welcome, Thanks!
