  1. I agree. Many small employers have moved away from rural communities because there is no local labour living in the vicinity. even rural retained fire stations have closed down because there are no local workers to provide retained fire cover any more. It must be a worry to have a pretty thatched cottage tucked away in an idyillic rural setting miles away from the nearest fire station that you only check on a couple of times a year.
  2. Tell that to the locals in rural areas. If there are any locals left. Second home owners have destroyed the infrastructure of rural communities. Has someone who works within the remit of the old group 7 (Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, Wiltshire, Scilly Isles etc.) i can confirm first hand that you are talking out of your backside. The demise of local shops , schools, post offices, garages, public transport, libraries, public toilets and other amenities does not indicate prosperity to me. A shop keeper in Merthyr Tydfill wil keep going long after the small village shop in a village of unoccupied houses has gone bankrupt.
  3. Its the same on the Isle of Wight allegedly. Regularly featured in Private Eye rotten boroughs. No worse or better than elsewhere I suppose. Who knows,...... Sigh
  4. The example I gave about Richer Sounds took place around 2003 before ebays shops were created on the site. They gave themselves loads of superb positive feedback on items that turned out to be specks of dust for 1p. Many different id's were used to carry out this fraudulent scam . Disgraceful behaviour. There was no need for it at the time because they had a decent reputation on the high street. A moment of madness ?
  5. Always sent one of the servants down to Somerfield or got chaffeured to Sainsbury or Tesco if i fancied a trip out
  6. My figures are never inflated my friend. My memory puts elephants to shame.
  7. Richer Sounds cannot be trusted. When they went onto Ebay some years ago They increased their own feedback by selling specks of dust to themselves for a penny a time. The first 500 of their positive feedback was obtained in this manner.
  8. I shop daily at my local waitrose to avoid the middle and lower class. Shopping each day at 1700 hours means I also buy all food at 80% discount. I buy the finest food for fook all.
  9. ebay is always good for a bargain. I paid £16 for this brand new high end card for my workstation as opposed to paying £373 or more for the same product online. For that saving I can live without any personal service http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270677980619&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:en-gb:IE-Address&rlz=1I7TSEA_en-GBGB315&wrapid=tlif12942351022331&q=Nvidia+quadro+FX+1700&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=12530257956589724231&ei=9HUkTYaVGNSJhQfDkrzGAg&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CDMQ8wIwAg#scoring=mrd I also ordered a wooden playhouse from Argos for my grandaughter for xmas at £287. Argos then said it would take up to four weeks for home delivery because of bad weather so I cancelled the order. I found the identical item online at Waltons Sheds for £157 . They delivered free in two days of placing order with a free 5l of yellow fence paint. Excellent service.
  10. sorry, i can see where you are coming from. It would be great if the owner paid double CT up front then negotiated with the tenant any type of discount for the local services used.
  11. If the property was occupied for 48 weeks a year the occupier would be responsible for standard CT. If the property remained empty the surcharge would apply
  12. No, if the second holiday home is rented out for a minimum of 48 weeks then a surcharge on the owner would not apply. The tenants(s) would be responsible for paying standard CT
  13. but if they only rent and do not own then the standard CT applies. My cousin works in the housing section of a large midland county council. She says that it would be very simple to implement an additional tax on the owners of second holiday homes
  14. Why on earth would you want to change CT on a home that is being rented ouit ? i think the point is that CT should be doubled on a second home that is not rented out
  15. Guide price should be around £120K for that property in Ringwood
  16. I doubt anyone would be daft enough to name a new development next to Brixton " Brixton Meadows".
  17. Perhaps the house belongs to a pole dancer. Is the pole a bit worn and damp around the lower third ?
  18. i would buy one of they came in under £50k for a one bed royal apartment
  19. It would be a wonderful gesture by those more fortunate than others to offer to share some of the burden
  20. It happened in wales when second homes were burnt to the ground. terrible times
  21. The 2nd home owners are killing the very thing that made owning a 2nd home so attractive. Its in their own interest to pay a few ££££s more just to protect the value of their luxury asset. They will be doing themselves a favour
  22. correct. A local precept could be decided by the local town or parish to make up for lost income or offset the cost of local amenities such as toilets and librarys
  23. Thats a multiple property owner not a second home owner. Buy to let are usually let out to local people who make a financial contribution to the community in which they live. A second home stands empty for most of the year . If no one is living in it then nofinancial contribution is being made. Think of it as a two car owner( 2nd home owner) . Only one car can be driven at a time. If its a care hire firm(multiple BTL) then most cars are driven at the same time. Hope thats stops your mind boggling
  24. Your confusing buy to let with with second homes. If a house is being rented out throughout the year there is no problem. If a second home stands empty for most of the year it causes a major problem with the local economy.
  25. I agree. Second home owners should be taxed out of existance and then the need for any additional housing reveiwed
