  1. Oh not again. August car sales are down to their lowest level SINCE 1966 SHOCK HORROR CRASH IMPLODE because in 1967 August became the month that car number plate letters indicating the year of the car were changed and therefore from then on it was the mega month for car sales right up until 1999 when it changed to March and September (making August and Feb the worst months as people waited a few weeks for the new plate). So the news is that car sales are THE WORST EVER since 1999. Prior to that you're comparing what is now one of the worst mnonths of the year to what was always the very best. The real news is CAR SALES WORST SINCE 1999. Not exactly any surprise (or news) there.
  2. I do'nt think anyone is interested in the facts on this forum anymore, just joyful joyful doom headlines with no analysis as to their real relevance. Mustn't spoil the party you know, no VI here.
  3. Gotta love media hype! Up until 1999 August was the one reg plate change a year, so was always a massively high month for car sales. So yes, sales in August are worse than any other time since 1999 but no surprise there. But they're bound to be worse than any time before 1999 as August has shifted from being the single massive car sales month, to the month before a plate change (March and September now) so suddenly a quieter month even than average due to people hanging on for new Sept plate, and certainly way way quieter than Augusts were pre 1999. And guess when the August plate change started? Why it was the 1967, the year after the quoted "worst since" date. Can't believe you guys fell for this one, thought you were able to see through the B/S!
  4. If you own another property then they can and will come after you for the shortfall as you have an asset and therefore the ability to pay the debt owed.
  5. Anyone else having trouble with the front page news blog list? When I try and scroll it the headlines move, but the text stays fixed. Does it at work and at home. Frustrating as this is one of the most useful parts of the site and I (try to) check it every day.
  6. I didn't say they were keen to be doing what's best, I said they were keen to be seen to be doing what's best. What most people want is a cut in outgoings, and will see an interest rate cut as a step toward this (whether it is in reality or not).
  7. No way they'll risk putting interest rate up. From a purely political standpoint it would be seen as "kicking the electorate (with higher borrowing costs) whilst they're down". Whatever the logic they'll be keen to be seen to be doing the right thing by "the people", so that's a hold, or even a drop (but most likely a hold).
  8. Fair comment and you're absolutely right in your situation. However the point I'm making is that all this "haha, losers with their £30K of debt" (including mortgages) is a bit stupid and pointless given that very many of them are probably in a very nice position and much better off than someone with no debt but no assets. What amuses me most is all the shouts of "VI" that regularly go up when there are constantly VI comments like this all over the board.
  9. You think 50% of the people that brought in the last 3years are (in your words) "unable to afford repayments or buy the latest plasmer Tv and new version of X5 thats just come out."? Honestly mate, most people don't live this way in the real world. Sure, some do and they'll get burned, but there's plenty of mortgage holders just going on with their lives in a normal and affordable fashion.
  10. Well you see, that's how properly managed debt works...
  11. Really? All mortgage holders are in this position? Ah, now I understand, thanks for enlightening me.
  12. You've lost me. What part did you not understand?
  13. But maybe he has a £200K house and can easily afford his mortgage repayments? Whilst there is a lot of sense talked on this board, there's also a lot of nonsense, all debt is bad etc. Having no debt doesn't amount to much if you're middle aged and have no assets either, it's the balance between the two and affordibility that is the key. Personally I'd rather have £50K of easily managed mortgage debt and live in a nice 3 bed house worth £200K (even if it is worth 10% less next year, so what?) than have no debt, £30K in the bank and live in a rented flat paying twice as much in rent as those mortgage payments and owning nothing. Don't get me wrong, unsecured debt with no asset to show for it is a problem, but well managed easily affordable mortgage debt against an asset worth far more is not, quite the reverse in fact.
  14. If 613 voted for The Sun and 626 people voted for the Daily Mail then the Daily Mail is the more popular paper. Quote all the Latin and percentages you want, it's still a basic fact.
  15. Really? Do you pop in each time and check that's what they're signing? How do you know it's not an order form and they're paying with heard earned cash!? Gotta lurve this forum...
  16. Come home to a real fire, buy a cottage in Wales
  17. Cat Curling doesn't sound as much fun as Cat Turding to be honest.
  18. So someone enlighten me about this new sport of "Cat Turding"? Is this a hobby you can take up solo, or more of a team activity? Is the cats welfare in any way affected? Is it best to use your own cat, or "borrow" a neighbours? Do you need much practice or traininng, or can pretty much anyone pick up a cat and "turd" away? In my mind I see "Cat Turding" as a little like ice curling, cats being slid like pucks toward a target, but I may be wrong of course. All insight into this new activity welcome.
  19. Don't know anything about the area admittedly, but that looks like a nice house for the money.
  20. Very true, but I suppose the thing is that Kirsty sets herself up as a sort of self appointed spokesperson for all those in the Bull VI camp (there is of course a bear VI camp, but they never get spoken about on here, despite so many members) so I guess it's natural that she takes all the flak.
  21. Dunno what you're all on about her being fat, she looks mighty fine to me. Does talk a lot of nonsense though, bless her.
  22. Anyone got a link to the interview? Can't seem to find it on that GMTV site.
