  1. If you buy shares in a company using a high street bank share dealing account, what would happen if that bank went bust? I ask because normally you don't get any share certificates anymore, so presumably legally one does not own the shares?
  2. If a country defaults then buyers of government bonds don't get repaid. But does a saver lose his savings in any of the 3 situations below: 1) If savings are in NS&I 2) If savings are in UK bank e.g. Barclays 3) If savings are in foreign bank, UK branch e.g. Abbey Rich Greeks are removing money from Greek banks, hence the question. Why are they doing this? Fear of confiscation? Thanks.
  3. Thanks for your recommendations- I will look into CREST. Basically last year when my bank looked like it might go under I closed my share account because I feared I might have lost my holdings. So I am looking to get back in now, but don't want the risk of relying government guarantee schemes if the worst happens.
  4. My high street bank only does electronic trading, where you never actually get share certificates. Can anyone recommend a good online stockbroker, where the minimum trade is not too high (say order of a few hundred £), and the commission is reasonable, and most importantly they post you the certificates? I know I can Google, but personal recommendations are good too. Thanks.
  5. Logged into share dealing account to try and sell shares. "Unfortunately this service is unavailable at the moment. Please try again later. We apologise for any inconvenience caused" Hoping this is nothing sinister.
  6. Checked data for Fareham Dec 03: 215 Dec 04: 100 Nice...
  7. Forum, Anyone know why fish4homes have about 50,000 less houses for sale this week, compared to last week? Can't believe there is a Christmas rush on!!
  8. zzg113, The poly line is a quadratic best fit line. I know that this is probably not the best model to use to fit the data. I just wanted to see if there was a slow moving trend. Gary.
  9. I posted the fish4homes data a while ago. Here is my latest chart. Gary.
  10. Dear all, Here is some data that I have collected over the last 6 months from fish4homes.co.uk. Each day, their home page states the number of houses for sale on their web site. I record this data from time to time. The red line shows the raw data and the blue curve is the quadratic best fit-- this seems to suggest that a turning point may be about to happen. I am not offering any interpretation of the data, (I wouldn't know where to start!), but I thought it may be of interest to other members of this forum. Regards, Gary. For Larger Version
