When you analyse it logically, 'being able to let the property out for money' is simply a bi-product of what is primarily, paying a mortgage down every month to buy a house. Whether the rent covers the mortgage is neither here nor there!

Tech has gotten hammered in the last 12 months, and it will accelerate with AI replacing low-to-mid level developers, stock photographers, graphic designers, web designers, accountants, paralegals, writers, marketers, all kinds of support staff + fairly much any desk job.
I’ve seen some really impressive AI artwork recently, I was totally flabbergasted to say the least. If the results (using the the same text input every time) are unique (don’t want two people using same text input getting the same graphic design/artwork else that would be a copyright nightmare), I’d be a bit worried if I was in this business I can tell you.

Two takeaways from this comment on the DM article
QuoteDonna is currently renting the property that she lives in, while at the same time renting out her cladding-hit property in Berkshire.
However, she explains that the rental income does not cover the existing mortgage and service charges on the cladding-hit flat.
Firstly, I hope she can live with herself renting out a home that is known to be a fire/death trap and secondly, when did people start thinking they had a god given right that rental income should be equal or more to what the mortgage currently costs?

The Tower: A Tale Of Two Cities - Part 1 (turn off ad blocker to watch)
edit: video is on dailymotion, but link does not appear on hpc ?
Good find. I also have all the episodes on my Plex that I downloaded from around the time it was first broadcast. I’m surprised why the BBC don’t make it available?

This reminds me of the excellent BBC documentary on Lewisham Council turfing out their tenants.

Rent rises too... buy now or be locked out for ever...
She’s on benefits and complaining about a 4% rise taking her London flat rent to £170 week. Mine went up by the maximum permitted of 7% this year.

I’ve commented on this before. My local Tesco Metro, people just brazingly walk in, pick up what they want and walk out. The shop has two entrances but only one security guard, so they’ve permanently shut one of the doors in order to manage the shoplifting, but the guard’s not always on the only entrance/exit.
One thing thing that’s only just dawned on me writing this is now there is only one emergency exit should there be a fire etc.

Popcorn for the wailing here at only .25%?
A .5% would make my December cut more likely though.
No chance. We’ll most likely follow the Fed and they won’t be cutting till at least May 24.

Didn't realize cars were the only form of transportation in London.
There are some situations where public transport is not practical. And I say this as a Londoner (and driver) that gave his car up for a whole 20 years (1998 - 2018). I've only now got myself a car as I plan to leave London at some point and wanna get my insurance no-claims up, also I need to be able to drive across England at short notice to visit/look after aging parent(s).

I also use https://houseprices.io/ for checking sold prices. Has handy +/- against estimated current value in real terms.

And the council that gave planning permission also needs shot with sh1t!

Hard to tell because it’s a small place with not a lot coming to market. I know St Andrews really well though because I was there at the same time as a royal 😉
I spotted this. Jeez, imagine building a crappy wee outbuilding in your garden and trying to sell it for 220k!!!
https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/135486347
OMFG! Where to start with this one? Firstly, from the outside it looks like a personal sauna room/block. And does that really back onto a public park? So you could have rowdy chavs pissing it up right on your doorstep/decking and be completely powerless to do anything about it.
Anyone that buys that deserves what they get.

Regarding passing on offers to vendor.
QuotePassing on Offers to the Seller
Estate agents are legally obligated to pass on all offers to the seller. They must pass on all offers all the way up to contracts being exchanged and the sale is finalised. Estate agents must inform sellers of offers in writing – either letter, email, or fax – and they must be passed on promptly from the offer being made. This means that anytime a buyer makes a formal offer, the seller must be notified about it.
The only exception to an offer being passed on to the seller is if the seller has formally requested to not be informed of certain offers. For example, they may ask the estate agent not to pass on offers that are below a certain amount.
What Estate Agents Legal Obligations to Buyers? | SOLD.CO.UK
I can imagine the conversations go something like this:
EA: "Do you want me to inform you of offers below £xxx"
Vendor: "No, thanks"

Browsing rightmove today, it seems to me that the rush to sell has started.
There are an awful lot of people trying to sell an awful lot of houses for an awful amount of money.
Despite houses not selling for months more and more people are listing stuff for more and more money.
Saw this nice £4.3M house in London, which is RIGHT ON THE PAVEMENT.

Maybe I am old fashioned buy £4M for a house where people can p*ss on your front step is bona-fide madness.
There are countless listings springing up now, properly 2022 + 20% prices while the world collapses around them.
Reduced to £3,999,950 last month. £4M and it’s not even detached. 😂

OMG! For a minute then, I thought Bruno was back!! 😂

We refuse to build houses while admitting half a million people per year. House prices have increased by 450 per cent in real terms since I was born in 1971, a figure no other OECD country comes close to. Expensive property drives up the cost of everything else.
This bit of that article stuck out for me. Someone else gets it too.

In all that discussion though ... this is the most important issue for you to take up?
Yes, because I think it undermines the credibility/validity of the situation the person is talking about. It does no favours to ‘the cause’.

My bold. WTF! Talk about getting one's priorities right. Before I personally fitted my outdoor tap (I certainly wasn't expecting my Housing Association to do it), I just ran a hose out the kitchen window.

£689,000 for a three bed (sort of). 805sqfeet over three floors.
OK, it's in Woodstock, but it sides onto the main A road throught the town and also has roads directly in front and behind.
For comparison, my 1 bedroomed flat is around 6 sqm less than this '3 bedroomed' house

You’ve pricked my ears now! I have a modest £500-ish in old £5 and £20 notes and have been lethargic in sorting it out. I already live in London so it won’t be a ball ache travel wise. Great post anonguest.
