  1. Just had to reply to this. I went to Italy skiing on school trip in February 1983 and Nutella was all the rage. I brought 4 jars back with me to the UK and the empty jars were designed to be used as whisky glasses.
  2. This is no more than key money for retirement homes, in the same way Shared Ownership (or any other prop - take your pick) is key money for First Time Buyer homes.
  3. Same here. I was going to start new topic on main forum, but remembered there were other sections on HPC forum. Its not just the brexit poll, it’s the whole advertising space taking up a third of the screen. On an iPad it’s horrendous! Mods, please reconsider. Ironically, I’ve getting adverts for Battersea 1, 2 & 3 bed apartments starting at £595k for gods sake right in my view as I’m scrolling up/down.
  4. All this painting sale demonstrates is just how utterly worthless money is becoming.
  5. No mention of whose back garden was it put in either.
  6. LOL at the photoshopped sofa in pic 32
  7. No mention of their salaries tells me all I need to know.
  8. HTB has become nothing more than a modern day 'key money'. Same goes for all the other hair brained shared ownership/get on the ladder schemes.
  9. Notice the wording in the statement says £10bn for 135,000 PEOPLE, not houses/flats. If they are assuming dual occupancy, that's only going to be 67,500 houses/flats anyway and more of a prop for house builders.
  10. JTFC!!! That 'article" wouldn't look out of place in the Daily Mash!!
  11. I see what you did there..... I wasn't just going to lego of it!
  12. This article suggests that she would needed to have paid any CGT on it before gifting it. https://www.saga.co.uk/magazine/money/personal-finance/giving/what-you-need-to-know-about-signing-property-over-to-your-children -------- On on a related note, won't potential huge CGT bills on second homes/BTL force people not to sell them? Thus we won't get a much needed mass of homes on the market for an even more needed price correction?
  13. A handy FOI request here with info on deprivation of capital/assets. https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/deprivation_of_capitalincome_rul They mention that capital can include jewellery, though not sure how they would know you owned a couple of £50k Rolex watches. Basically, the whole means tested benefit system is fundamentally a joke.
  14. No. Not if you used it to house yourself. Yes, if you used it to go on a round the world cruise. The rules all fall under 'deprivation of assets' for qualifying for benefits. I'm sure there's a section on the Gov website on it.
  15. It's for this reason and ZIRP I've been seriously thinking about taking all my stored wealth 'off grid'. It's no use as a house deposit at the moment and When the economic SHTF, and it will, I'll be throwing my self at the state like everyone else.
  16. I bought his book over 10 years ago https://www.amazon.co.uk/Boom-Bust-Prices-Banking-Depression/dp/0856831891/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1502972937&sr=1-3 I don't think even he imagined that successive governments would do absolutely ANYTHING in order to prop house prices up. I know I didn't.
  17. This single sentence epitomises for me all that's wrong with amateur BTL *****s!
