  1. Petrol stations in Greece run dry http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/world-news/petrol-stations-in-gr.html-run-dry-14691797.html#ixzz0gAzmjJgz
  2. If Qe restarts, does that mean we can say adios to our aaa credit rating?
  3. "As British and American bankers waive their 2009 bonuses in an attempt to win public favour - Lloyds chief executive Eric Daniels being the latest - and currency traders predict a sustained drop on concern over EU member deficit" They might do better by jumping out of a window to win back the favour of the public
  4. Housing associations could be affected by this? Don't they rely on housing benefit payments to pay their staff?
  5. People can avoid this by putting off buying a house until prices reach affordable levels.
  6. I watched that 3 times. Good to see Schiff hammering home the reality of how dire things really are in to these mendacious clowns.
  7. That's a lot cheaper than I thought it would be. Have you had to spend much on upgrades, i.e better brakes, suspension, exhaust etc? What engine and car are you using for the project?
  8. MT, IMO there's a high probability that the fallout from the commercial real estate collapse may tip the already fragile US economy into a full blown depression. Our economy is beyond fragile, we're on a knife edge. Any ripples created by another credit famine triggered by further massive bank losses could feel like a tsunami to us?
  9. 2998 (40%) small-med size US banks have big exposure to to 'risky' commercial real estate loans. Plummeting property prices, applications for refinancing being turned down leading to foreclosure. $1.4 trillion worth of loans are due for refinancing between 2010-2014, banks face losses of up to $300bln Get ready for credit crunch 2 http://www.youtube.com/user/oversightpanel
  10. Sounds good, will you be declaring whats lurking under your bonnet to the insurance company?
  11. The rent increase isn't an issue, it's never gone up in 5 years. When it does go up after the work has been carried out we will still be paying below the average for our area.
  12. Moose, we're quite happy here and have no intentions of moving. However I pointed out to our LL that the suites were getting old and tired and were no longer serviceable so she has agreed to refurbish provided we pay a little more rent.
  13. Just to clarify, we have agreed to the work being done and I've asked my LL if she is prepared to waiver the rent whilst the new suites are being fitted as we will have to pay for alternative accommodation because the bathroom and kitchen will be unusable for 2 weeks. So far she has refused to waiver the rent so I have asked for a deduction, but so far had no reply.
  14. Does anybody know if I'm legally entitled to a reduction/waiver of rent during a kitchen and bathroom refurbishment whilst I'll be living in the same property?
  15. From JHK's blog.. " My guess is that the current situation in Euroland is unfixable. The "contagion" of Greece has already spread and it's only a matter of months before the Iberian peninsula goes under too. Did I leave out the UK's financial troubles (acknowledging that they are not within the Euro currency system)? Not to put too fine a point on it, Old Blighty is pretty well nigh ******ed. It's on the express line back to the fifteenth century, and doesn't know it yet. Break out the leathern helmets and the wooden ploughshares. The UK is out of oil, out of banking cred (which is all it had the last forty years), and out of time. The one thing they have a lot of is bad paper hiding in their bank vaults -- enough to blow that black hole of capital even wider." http://kunstler.com/blog/2010/02/euroland-the-horror-movie.html

  17. Yes everyone is still happy clappy in public sector employee land. A friend of my GF recently left his job, the firm he worked for did contracting work for the public sector which went bust soon after he left. He was lucky enough to find another job soon after working within the PS, he then went on to say that there has been several redundancies made in his department and they are planning on making further cuts. He then said that he wants another three kids. He already has two. The mind boggles.
  18. A car, house etc is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. Sellers will soon learn this.
