  1. They're a vicious bunch but you do get an insight into what (mostly) mums of the UK are thinking. This mindset is why the govt keeps on pumping the housing market.

  3. Surely some of the problem is partly that there were no clear regulations governing the mis-selling of the products. What ads did the house builders run for HTB? Did they use targeted social media? Did they incentivise word of mouth with kickbacks? A couple walk into a builder show room, starting to think about a starter flat and they get given the hard sell on a free loan. It's not hard to imagine. And what incentives did the builders give their staff on flogging these products? There's a lot to unpick.
  4. Entire home Airbnb listings in London have increased by 571% in 5 years: new research https://theconversation.com/amp/entire-home-airbnb-listings-in-london-have-increased-by-571-in-5-years-new-research-172436 Revealed: the areas in the UK with one Airbnb for every four homes ‘Out-of-control’ dominance of rentals in some communities depriving locals of homes, critics say https://amp.theguardian.com/technology/2020/feb/20/revealed-the-areas-in-the-uk-with-one-airbnb-for-every-four-homes
  5. If he goes, expect to see him make millions from book deals, newspaper columns, TV appearances, speaking appearances etc. Within a couple months you’ll see the headline Boris Buys £XX million mansion in Cotswolds/Knightsbridge/wherever Carrie reckons she can social climb the highest.
  6. https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/legal_money_matters/4486795-help-to-buy Me and my husband brought a new build property 5 years ago this October, and were due to start repaying the interest from this October, which we were fully aware of and understood. What I didn't realise is all the complexities of wanting to repay the loan/remortgage etc. involving conveyancers, solicitors etc. seems mental that something that was meant to help young first time buyers had so many hidden terms and conditions. I had no idea it would be this complex. Or that they'd get a proportional share of the value of your house at the time of repayment. It's basically a helping hand with lots of ties attached. Feeling a little stupid... which I'd held out longer and saved the additional myself..
  7. https://www.theguardian.com/money/2022/jun/01/uk-renters-how-have-soaring-prices-and-a-lack-of-supply-affected-you We want to hear about your recent experiences of trying to find a house or flat to rent in an overheated market
  8. I can’t believe the country that mass harvests human organs from concentration camp prisoners would ever do anything to violate citizen’s rights. https://www.businessinsider.com/china-harvesting-organs-of-uighur-muslims-china-tribunal-tells-un-2019-9?amp China is harvesting thousands of human organs from its Uighur Muslim minority, UN human-rights body hears
  9. Why do you want doctors to retrain as remote workers? It is a privilege, just like my rentals and your holiday home. You just don’t want to admit it because psychological reasons. Do you need all the NHS nurses to give you a handclap for making their commutes nicer? You’re not oppressed here bud.
  10. The reason WFH is divisive is because it is directly related to the privilege of being removed from required face to face contact. That is, is is entirely the preserve of white collar office workers. On the other side sit all the workers who make the lives of home workers comfortable: the delivery people, the baristas, the bakers, the dog groomers, the barbers, the butchers, the shelf stackers, the nurses, the vets, the taxi drivers, the teachers, the nursery workers, the cleaners, the factory workers, the doctors, and so on This is a divide. Just like the divide between house owners and non house owners. Acknowledging it shouldn’t be a cancellable offence.
  11. Amazing that such genius is going unrewarded.
  12. You’re an expert in many fields, it seems. Brexit, covid and climate (but oddly, rarely house prices and economics). Care to provide us with your credentials?
  13. Wow I can’t imagine what could possibly have created this scenario https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/
