  1. Last year I rushed to sell because I thought HIPs were coming in that year.
  2. Well what about immigrants who are convicted here should they be deported ? (They are not at the moment). Also - and this is the real killer- how long should an immigrant work here before they can get a council house (at the moment it is zero). Believe me if this was eg 5 years then the amount of immigration here would shrink.
  3. So do you want foreign thugs to be deported ? UK ones in Australia etc get sent back here.
  4. But if there was zero stamp duty people living in old houses would have more incentive to downsize and increasing the liquidity of the market so in theory making it more stable (less boom bust).
  5. If Gordon Brown had any immigrant friends he would realise that reducing immigration is easy :- 1) No access to any benefits apart from healthcare for the first 5 years in the country. Particulary no access to housing. 2) If they break the law they get deported. 3) Any company employing illegal immigrants to be fined 100x the immigrants salary. 4) The person who reports a company to get 10% of the fine - even if they are the illegal immigrant in question 5) Same for Landlords. Of course the loony left and the CBI would howl.
  6. Aren't so many politicians hypocrites ? I would love it, if when he or Chris Hume (Lib Dem) were talking about the benefits of immigration the interviewer said "how many of your tenants are immigrants ? Aren't you in favour of immigration to get more tenants ?" (BTW I have immigrant lodgers and benefit a lot financially from them).
  7. I can not remember all the details. But Thatcher announced that she was going to abolish double MIRAS on mortgages taken out after date x. Therefore people tried to buy before that date causing prices to rise and of course afterwards there was less demand because people who would have bought after date x and brought the move forwards. A friend of mine is a surveyor and said that it was obvious what was going to happen. Perhaps someone else has the full details.
  8. House prices in 1989 were high partly because people tried to beat the change to joint MIRAS. Now partly because of immigration. This means that a crash of 1989 scale is unlikely.
  9. The problem isn't the immigrants it is the scum who let them in without thinking where they are going to live.
  10. Of course immigrants who have cheap or free council housing will stay. So we would lose those who pay for themselves and keep the parasites - great. Assuming of course HPC does not damage your economy (they are linked) as well so you come back after a few weeks !
  11. Have you ever been to Japan ? It is a nice country and well run with low crime but it is very crowded. As we are badly run and have low crime if we got to their population density it would be a nightmare. There is a long term solution but it is not PC.
  12. I don't think Blair knew it would have happened after all he did sell his house in 1997 - which is so funny.
  13. The real problem with stamp duty is that it makes downsizing less attractive. If you have a 500 K home and want to move to £300 k one stamp duty makes it less attractive - plus all the hassle etc.
  14. Well you will get what you deserve if you vote Labour instead of UKIP - housing shortage.
  15. Well that is wrong but the original post was about relative poverty not absolute poverty (or real poverty). "The number of children living in relative poverty in the UK "
  16. I have not bettered myself at the expense of others I do have lodgers but I charge them less than market rent to not get nutters. Could you answer my question :- which of these two choices would you prefer :- 1) In 20 years time every child in the UK has enough clothes, food, wonder NHS, gadgets we can only dream of now, low crime, schools better than private schools now and affordable housing. But high relative poverty with a small minority taking their holidays in exotic locations like the seychelles the rest having to go to Spain or the UK. 2) In 20 years time no relative poverty but lack of housing, food, clothes and rubbish schools ? (Like today just without relative poverty). That is why I think relative poverty is a crazy term - many countries eg North Korea have no relative poverty - is that such a good thing ? They do have absolute poverty.
  17. Thank you. I had friends in the 1980's when I was growing who did not have a phone or a video. I can not believe that material things today are worse than then - apart from lack of space of course (non materials things like crime etc are of course a different matter).
  18. Actually I was being ironic or perhaps you are a communist ? If I was to die today I would not be ashamed for saying this. However I have a question for you which of these two choices would you prefer :- 1) In 20 years time every child in the UK has enough clothes, food, wonder NHS, gadgets we can only dream of now, low crime, schools better than private schools now and affordable housing. But high relative poverty with a small minority taking their holidays in exotic locations like the seychelles the rest having to go to Spain or the UK. 2) No relative poverty but lack of housing, food, clothes and rubbish schools ? (Like today just without relative poverty). That is why I think relative poverty is a crazy term - many countries eg North Korea have no relative poverty - is that such a good thing ? They do have absolute poverty.
  19. I agree with you every child deserves a decent life. However that should be based on real things eg enough clothes, heating and also intangible things like freedom from bullying, decent schools etc. It should not be based on a fraction of an average salary. However because the government concentrates on meaningless things like that they will not achieve things like decent schools. BTW I can not afford a car let alone a 4x4. Actually I agree with you all children regardless of whether their parents earn £10 k pa or £500 k pa should have the same lifestyle. Where do I sign up to the communist party ?
  20. You should give it a go. However try to make them you are in an ethnic minority - in my experience that helps. It certainly helps me with the police (I always tell them crimes against me could be racist - of course they could be - my wife is a foreigner, I am not).
  21. Relative poverty is meaningless. If you think about if Bill Gates were to move to the UK there would be more "relative poor" people. Very few children are poor if you mean they have lack of food etc - apart from of course lack of space. Which is far more important than being on 60% of median income.
  22. It is not 100% true that immigration is what is causing housing shortage. It is because the government builds less homes that it lets immigrants in. The immigrants are not responsible for this - it is the scum who let them in
  23. She is a left winger they can only see 2 possibilities no immigration or no controls. Or alternatively she is being dishonest by distorting her opponent's point of view.
  24. I only saw 10 minutes of the programme both sides were annoying. I thought when he was speaking to the Polish welders he missed a good trick - he should have asked them why their country had troops in Iraq and did not get bombed unlike us. Of course the answer is Islamic immigration.
