  1. Thank you SB but Milton is not where I am interested in. I am thinking about the seafront but has the Gunwharf development had an impact on places like Clarence Parade, South Parade. I heard that some of the shop were ging to be closed in the centre also -Debenhams and Knight &Lee moving for example. Is there any more news about that because that would make place like Gunwharf next to shopping perhaps a better investment as opposed to the beach front streets. The old houses on the seafront are very attractive but are they the place to buy? (Do you think we should ask the admins to change the title of this thread?)
  2. 'Unfortuanately if you go in any of the council's websites it is impossible to check out what benefits exactly are available to assylum seekers but anyone on welfare benefits is entitled to many grants from Westminster such as fixing heating problems, including a completely new system with new boilers/radiators/ attic, door insulation, even a collectin of eco friendly light bulbs is sent. Then there are major house repairs and if you need to visit relatives the travel costs are paid. I have seen a document given to an assylum seeker concerning what is available and all of those mentioned are available and the costs of a computer and broadband connection were also there with the firniture costs. These were items paid for by the local council and it is not available publically for any of us to see. Though we all might have aging and handicapped parents who desperately need help in some instances ,the huge difference in social services available in different areas means some struggle whilst others comfortably survive. It is all to do with loclal authority discriminatory regulations and even when questioned they cannot come up with any real evidence of their decision making apart from pointing to government at Westminster. As bad as it is purchasing property now, check out as you all get older where you need to retire too because if the local funds are going to new immigrants etc then it is not available to others in need in that area because of the politically correct concept. BTW -assylum seekers do not want to live in a village they want a setting where they are near others - usually friends and relatives.
  3. Southsea area is where I am interested - there seem to be a huge amount of new apartment buildings going up all the time. I am not resident there at the moment but what is the market like for buyers. (Perhaps this thread title could be changed to exclude a specific area;Portsmouth/Southsea would be more encompassing as for example the Yorkshire thread which covers a much larger area)
  4. That is terribly sad but unless we know the individual personally then speculation is not valid regarding "his finances". Personally I would think being a physician can be quite gloomy, always having to deal with sick and dying people. We have two GPs and two surgeons in our family and they are all wealthy compared to other professionals, obviously excluding the finance people. Many docotors cannot handle their finances; they earn a lot of money and go into the spending mode IMO. Fortunately most of them can afford financial advisors. We can only hope that your GP's family have some strength and support to help them get through this awful situation.
