  1. There was also talk of building a larger reservoir in Wales and a national water grid to pump water from Scotland so not only does the south east take all the gas but now they want the water and probably electricity in the future too
  2. What difference will the Euro make to any black Tuesday crash in the pounds since it wasn't around last time?
  3. I thought I had read loads of stories about food prices rising 2.6%
  4. What I really hate about politicians these days is that they are career politicians who can't afford to quit their post on a point of principle. They have to go with the party line. You would think that being having a mortgage and living month-monthish they would be closer to the electorate compared to their more priviledged predecessors but no once they are in their ivory towers their morals seem to go out the window and float down the Thames.
  5. He is also one injury away from earning nothing and the older he gets the more susceptible he will become.
  6. It is going to be a hard winter, don't think prices will raise much further but I am sure they won't come down anywhere near as quick when the new pipelines are opened
  7. Ha Ha not in Aberdeen it isn't. Switched my heating on the other day, only been off for about 6 weeks this summer
  8. With all the recent hikes in gas price being substantially greater than the hike in electricity prices electricity must be close to being a cheaper method of heating your home now
  9. The low oil price of the early 90's is coming to the fore here in Aberdeen. The skills shortage is phenomenal and companies are having to pay top whack to retain staff never mind fill vacanies. The lack of trainees taken on 10 years or so ago now means a dearth in suitable staff at a time when there is so much investment in the industry worldwide.
  10. And what has been taken out / added over the past few years
  11. Chat in the pub last night was that if Iran or Syria is drawn into any sort of middle east conflict then we are looking at $150 a barrel. Can't help but think that the US is biting off in's nose to spite it's face as being such a large importer their economy will dive compared to it's current tailing off. Britain being virtually neutral in oil imports/exports would get off a lot lighter.
  12. Add the fact that energy contracts are up for re-negotiation and the losses could be sooner rather than later.
  13. Would think that even an electric cooker will require an electrician to fit. It's not just plugging it in to the socket as it is a high current appliance so has to have the right cable and the right length. If you are buying a new appliance tell the shop you want it fitted or your not buying.
  14. Russian Pipeline Burst Add to that the Forties Pipeline to Grangemouth is shut for a week (circa 400000 bbls/day) could mean oil prices heading upwards today. Not to mention Britains trade deficit this month and next.
  15. Out of curiosity I asked for prices for the new build George Wimpey development out at Bucksburn. 2 bed top floor flats 140k or 142k for the two I inquired about. Nearly wet myself
  16. As soon as the English get round to voting for independance the better imho. If you look at the best places to live in the world they are all nothern european countries with a small population. Norway, Sweden, Denamark, Ireland. Hopefully Scotland would follow. I am currently hoping for a move to Norway.
  17. Just found out what my neighbour paid on nethouseprices.co.uk 91k for a 1 bed flat, no central heating (well my rented place doesn't). The flat below sold for 62k about a year ago. Mad I tell you.
  18. Hello all, found this forum through the mention in The Independent. Living in Aberdeen which means the property market probably has stronger links to the oil price than the UK housing market. Prices are stupid for FTBs here too so I shall be continuing to rent even though a price crash would not cause the same devastation here so long as Bush and Bliar continue their war mongering.
