Must admit that there is an air of "one last sprint for the line before passing out in a knackered heap" to all this. -

If House Prices Are Too High - Dont Buy.
tenroom replied to ivmcdermott's topic in House prices and the economy
Not to detract from your post - which is spot on by the way- but I think that you mean "should have" and not "should of" Spelt correctly, it should read "should've" . . . . just thought I'd let you know. -
Market Is Alive And Well - Friend Sold In 3 Days
tenroom replied to mercenarul's topic in House prices and the economy
Whatever . . . wouldn't want to piss around with trains at 4 in the morning either - especially after a skinful Cab ride is literally 10 minutes to LG or NH. That's convenience . . . -

Prices around here are truly ridiculous. Check this out for lunacy. What's worse is that people are actually achieving these prices -

Each to their own although I seriously fail to understand how much anyone could really get to know about London having only lived there for a month but, hey, if someone thinks they can offer informed comment after that amount of time, who am I to argue ? Couldn't live anywhere inLondon but Ladbroke Grove/Notting Hill. Relatively safe, very, very much in demand and you can sell a broom cupboard for £100K. Just try getting a cab to Luton at 4 in the morning on a Friday night. -
Yes . . . by the same kind of people who predicted we'd be mid-crash today . . .

Will London Be Such A Desirable Place To Live
tenroom replied to Justice's topic in House prices and the economy
Well I've lived here all my 40 years and still love it. If I moved, it'd have to be to another country as I don't think the rest of the UK has uch to offer me other than sleepy villages, shops that resolutely refuse to open later than 6pm and worse public transport than London. I was thinking . . . hmm. . . Paris . . . . -

Forgive me for returning to the original topic but being a resident in the extended congestion charge zone I felt I ought to pipe up. I think we need to look past the fact that it's poor folk who are going to suffer from the £8 charge. It is galling that the rich, to whom this charge won't even register, will be the only ones who can afford to drive around Kensington and Notting Hill but this gradual exodus from private transport has to start somewhere. I've recently started to cycle into the City cos the journey on the Central Line to Bank used to leave me feeling tired and pugnacious. I arrive at my desk now feeling invigorated and buzzing AND I save £80 a month I realise it's not something that every one can do but if you can, you should. -
Location, Location, Quotation, Rotate Pal!
tenroom replied to The Judder's topic in House prices and the economy
Well my lender doesn't demand inventory inspections and rock up to the front door without warning every 6 months to conduct them. I can stay there for as long as I want and when I sell up, I walk away with cash money . . . I don't see this arrangement in the rental market . . . no doubt you'll tell me if I'm wrong . . . -

Whilst there are some perfectly valid points raised by the OP, I really do wish people would get away from this "IO is renting off the bank" quote that's permeated this board forever and a day. It is not renting off the bank at all. I got an IO mortgage in '97 to purchase my flat. I'm flogging the thing now and stand to walk away with, ooh, six figures. I don't see how someone renting off a landlord could've done the same. I happen to agree with sentiments that renting is NOT dead money since you actually get accommodation for your money and more flexibility. I also question the sense in borrowing as much as these people did for what little they got but can we can the "renting off the bank" spiel . . . -

Sky News Rattles Housing Market With Headline News
tenroom replied to Realistbear's topic in House prices and the economy
The source is irrelevant as far as you're concerned, RB. HPC stalwart you may be but you are also notorious for seeking to discredit even the most respected of sources when their reports and opinions clash with yours. You know as well as I do that the rates ain't going up come Thursday so let's leave it at that. -

Still Think Btlers Are In It Short-term . . . ?
tenroom replied to tenroom's topic in House prices and the economy
Your anecdotal may well be very appropriate to your neck of the woods up there in Manchester but down here, in West London, we simply don't have these concerns. It's never been a bad idea to get involved in property in Central London. Your assertions on immigration don't hold much water. How many waves of immigration have been deemed temporary ? My own parents came here in the Windrush from the Caribbean in 1960. Everyone and the dog thought they'd be here for a few years, make enough money to build a nice house back home and then piss off. Didn't happen, did it ? Every day, as a recruiter, I'm speaking to immigrants from Eastern Europe who've heard that companies can't hire C# software developers for love nor money. These guys aren't looking at staying for a year and then leggin' it, they're talking about buying a home eventually cos they love the culture, the way of life etc. How do you back up a statement like that when all the evidence points to more single occupant dwellings, not less.
